About Me

I am Elizabeth Plantagenet, or better known as Elizabeth of York. I am the daughter of King Edward IV of England and Elizabeth Woodville, and I was born in the struggle known as the War of the Roses, officially ended by my husband, King Henry VII Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth against my uncle Richard III. I can speak French, Latin and a little Spanish, and I am well read. People say that I was to marry my uncle Richard III - politically it would have been correct, even though he usurped my brother, Edward V, and was also accused of their murder! But God changed fate, and my husband Henry is a most gracious husband. I could ask for no better man in my life than him.Not much else happened in my life, except for my wonderful children and a peaceful kingdom!!!!!! Oh - except that I died on my 37th birthday in 1503 - I was not best pleased, but Henry did give me a wonderful funeral! Before I was Queen Consort, I was named Lady of the Garter in 1477 along with my aunt, the Duchess of Suffolk (also Elizabeth of York!), and I am the only English Queen to be a daughter, sister, mother, niece and wife to English Kings, and I am also the basis for the Queen of Hearts on the pack of cards. I'd like to meet:

My husband Henry! My children - Arthur, Henry, Margaret and Mary! My dear departed father, Edward IV and mother, Elizabeth Woodville! My sisters, and my poor brothers! Who will ever know for sure what had happened to those sweet, innocent boys!? For interest, my sisters were Mary of York, Cecily of York, Margaret Princess of York, Anne of York, Catherine of York and Bridget of York. Mary was born at Windsor Castle and was to marry John of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, but nothing came of it. Cecily was born at Westminster Palace and originally betrothed to James IV of Scotland, but also came to nothing, along with Alexader Stewart (brother of James III of Scotland)who was killed in battle. She was also rumoured to be considered a wife to Richard III. When my husband came to the throne, she married Viscount Welles, and had two children with him, only to die in infancy. She married again to Thomas Kyme, a Lincolnshire squire without the knowledge of my husband, and was sent from court. She died around 1507. Margaret was born in Winchester Castle, but died eight months later. Anne was born at Westminster, and was supposed to marry Philip the Handsome (son of Maximiliam I, Holy Roman Emperor), but this was forgotten, and she went to become the wife of Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey (later Duke of Norfolk). She died in 1511. Catherine was born at Eltham Palace. She was contracted to marry Prince Juan of Spain (son of Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile) but was never concluded. My husband drew up plans for her to marry the second son of James III of Scotland, but after certain events she married William Courtenay and had three children. After William's death she took a voluntary vow of chastity in 1511. She was quite favoured by my son Henry VIII, and she survived her husband by eleven years. Bridget was set for a religious life from the moment she was born at Eltham, Kent, and spent her life as a nun. I maintained communications with her, and I generously paid for her minor expenses.I also had another brother, other than the princes in the Tower - George, Duke of Bedford, born at Windsor Castle, but died two years later, and was buried at St George's Chapel, Windsor.
