Wake Up Hip Hop!! By Delando McWilliams, Associate Writer Some rap artists have nothing more to talk about than negative ideas and feel they have accomplished their objective into bringing something new into the rap game. This is not to say for thought provoking artists, such as Anubyss. This conscious/ lyrically profound hip hop artist was born and raised in South Philadelphia, PA. His love for music began at an early age. It became clear to himself and others how much he loved music when he attended the Girard Academic Music Program (GAMP). Anubyss later started participating in free-style battles. While hearing other artist flow and lyrics, he realize many were trying to be cool and talk about the drug dealing, violence, cars, and negative aspects of life. He came to the battleground with a different approach. He began battling about the positives and the harsh realities of life, such as higher self-esteem and police-brutality. Others started to listen to him and realize how much heart and reality he put into his lyrics. That’s when he started to become popular and win his battles against known MCs. You can listen to his battles on www.icanspit.com Anubyss’’ inspiration comes from conscious artist such as Nas, The Roots, and Common. But he’’s not just limiting himself to mindful artist. ““I would to do songs with Snoop Dogg ,50 Cent and even Jay-Z. These are the top artists that are in the game right now,”” says Anubyss. He is an artist who feels that a man can’’t do everything on his own. For example, his partner, Ryan Quinn from Trinidad. Quinn is known has his s right hand man who takes on as many responsibilities. Quinn is the singer, hype-man and also does a little construction as the builder of Original Man Entertainment studio. Anubyss is not only known as a lyricist, but also known as a producer. With his own studio, he finds time to produce many of his tracks. He has over six (6) cds filled with his music. However he has only marketed one album ““What The Hood Don’’t Know,”” which can be found on www.cdbaby.com. His music as a whole discusses poverty, black race, ethnicity, culture, nationality, and black people’’s purpose on this earth. Some artist may just talk the talk, but not for Anubyss. He also devotes his work in the community. He is a member of the 380 Project. This is an organization that is working on an untitled documentary movie that dedicated and reveals the images and feelings of the 380 homicides that took place in Philadelphia in 2005. His heart felt song ““380 Homicides”” will be featured on the soundtrack for this documentary. Anubyss’’ goal as an artist is to talk to hip hop listeners about looking in the mirror at ourselves and finding our purpose, opening minds, scaring people about the harsh realities, and how charity/discipline begins in the home. Anubyss proclaims that the world may not be ready for his music. Artist in the game may feel a little uncomfortable with his style but he will still do what is needed to uplift the community. ““In five years I see myself upsetting the game with my ways of thinking and my soul lifting lyrics,”” say Anubyss. ““I would already be running my record label, Original Man Entertainment Records, and looking for other artist to speak their mind and be versatile.”” Anubyss is ready to show the universe his music and thoughts.
