Branchage Film Festival

25th - 28th September 2008

About Me

Branchage is the incarnation of a lively boutique film festival on the island of Jersey, dotted in the waves of the English Channel.
Branchage will host an array of diverse and raucously entertaining films, dazzling special events, talks, exhibitions, training and education. The festival will gather films by some of the worlds most talented directors and hunt out the freshest new talent to bring a selection of now and then, long and short, true and false.
Branchage will be a banquet for all with comedy, live music, weirdly wonderful venues, parties and an entourage of filmmakers, visiting and homegrown.
The festival will take place between 25th September - 28th September in various venues across the island. For more information keep checking this page and the official website www.branchagefestival.com
ISLANDERS FILM AWARD
If you are resident in the Channel Islands you could have a chance to win £10,000 at the first ever Branchage Jersey International Film Festival. All you have to do is submit your own original film through the link on the website for a chance to win the cash prize. The films will be professionally judged and the best of the best will be screened at the festival in September. So get filming, you only have until 18th July 2008 to get your submissions in.
BRANCHAGE BOOTCAMP
The idea behind the Bootcamp is to help young people (aged 16-25) from the Channel Islands to make a selection of short films that will be screened at the festival and shown on Channel TV’s website plus other film festivals and digital platforms like satellite TV and the Internet over the next year.
For a chance to take part in Branchage Bootcamp all you need to do is tell the team in around 350-500 words what it’s like to be a young person in the Channel Islands, your hopes and dreams for the future and what you really want to let everyone know about. You can upload your entry onto the website and the closing date is 31st July 2008.
The twelve semi-finalists from the entries will win a brand new state of the art mobile phone courtesy of Jersey Telecoms. With theses phones the semi-finalists will be asked to blog a week of their lives, record images and video footage and send it through for judging by the panel. The six best entries out of the twelve will then go through to attend Branchage Bootcamp for an intense training on turning ideas into short films working with the industry pros.
THE ISLANDERS FILM AWARD COMPETITION AND BRANCHAGE BOOTCAMP ARE BOTH NOW CLOSED FOR ENTRIES. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUBMISSIONS!
YOUR WINNIPEG COMPETITION
Inspired by the release of MY WINNIPEG, Soda Pictures in conjunction with Four Docs, 3 MinuteWonder, The Branchage Film Festival & Destination Winnipeg will be launching the filmmakingcompetition ‘Your Winnipeg’. Entrants are invited to submit a 3-minute documentary about their hometown being as experimental and creatively adventurous as they dare!Guy Maddin will join a jury of industry professionals to select the winning entry, which will be screened on Channel 4 and included on the DVD release of MY WINNIPEG. The winner will also be rewarded with £1500 and a holiday to Winnipeg, Canada. 3 runner-up films will also be screened on Channel 4 and the winners will receive £1500. A selection of further films will join the prize-winning entries and be shown at Branchage Film Festival late September.Full details are be available at WWW.YOURWINNIPEG.CO.UK
DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 1st!
How many people can you fit in a garden shed?? This was the challenge set by the Branchage team at this weekend’s Jersey Live music festival. Well, 27 people crammed into the B&Q special, and all was caught on camera by Branchage Artistic Director Xanthe Hamilton as the shed door burst open and the 27 fell out into the surprised music festival crowd standing their aghast! The film was then shown on the giant screens either side of the main stage between bands.
