The Farmer's Daughter

About Me

I am the one and only Nina Hervé (I think I am anyway!) and I was born and raised in the middle of the Channel in between England and France on the island of Jersey. Since the sixteenth day of August back in 1977 (the day that Elvis died, and Charles Bukowski and Madonna celebrated their own birthdays), I have been surrounded by beautiful gardens that have been nurtured by my green-fingered parents Mary and Gordon. Unusual shapes and vibrant colours feature heavily in my work which have been inspired by the tropical plants and exotic flowers grown by my Ma and Pa, also the pretty bugs and butterflies that buzz about the pond and bushes.
My work has no profound meaning. I like to create paintings that are full of fun and that make people smile and forget about this troubled world in which we live in.
Influences include music, anything of a hand-made nature, creative crafts and simple child like images. My work is normally of an abstract nature, using acrylic paint on mdf board as my preferred medium and sometimes the use of coloured resin mixed with glitter to give certain pieces a shimmery texture.
I had my first exhibition 'Debut' which was held at the Garrik gallery in 2003 and my second 'Peaches and Cream' was held at The Harbour View bar and eatery in 2004. The last body of work titled 'The Garden Party' was also exhibited at 'The Harbour View' in the summer of 2005, and was influenced by the scenery of cult kids television programme 'The Magic Roundabout'. You can see some of my paintings below, these are called 'Cosimo', 'Geneviève' and 'Sofia' and the one at the top is called 'Tallulah'.
