PopCult are:
Dan – To me, Dan is like Ivan Campo. Hard working, silly hair and you know he could turn nasty. Yet at the same time has a lot of class and would welcome you into his house any day of the week and cook up a mighty meal served with a drink of your choice. I’m certain that Christmas at Dan’s and Ivan’s respective houses are amazing.
Pete - In many ways Pete is similar Jimmy Bullard. Pretty hard to dislike but does get pretty annoying if you spend too much time with him. They are both kinda unsure how they ended up where they are and are not having the best of times at the moment, but it's just a matter of time before Pete and Jimmy are back to their best.
James – Is almost certainly like Kevin Nolan. Both are hideously underrated by a lot of people but yet people who see them week in and week out are certain that they are class acts in their own worlds. Sometimes you take it for granted just how hard working they both are but just stop for a second and consider and you smile to yourself.
Squad Players – We also have many many extra friends who make the whole sorry mess work. From Luke and Blake and Pat who write amazing things to Nicola who takes amazing photos. The loyal pals like Steve and Malcolm who will write words for us when we are too busy/lazy. Then we have superstars like OD who will sit and staple in return for a beer and a couple of songs on a juke box.
Pop Cult do:
Fanzine – Every now and then we bash out a fanzine. We all get annoyed about how few times this is done but we always are slowly working on it. So far Hope of the States (RIP), The Polyphonic Spree, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The National, Battles, My Latest Novel, redcarsgofaster, The Answering Machine, Hot Club de Paris and many others have agreed to sit and chatter with us. It also features reviews, reviews, reviews of tea, coffee, , gigs, demos, cds, books, anything we do or see or eat. It is totally free and totally fun.PodCast – A new addition and the best thing so far. Click here to find where to download them. Half an hour of brilliant music with as little talking as James is prepared to do.
Club Nights – Manchester has so many amazing club nights. Pineapple Folk , Friends Of Mine , Blowout , House On Fire , High Voltage are some of our favourites so far. This means that PopCult don’t see any reason to put on a gig a week. When we do put one on, they are always amazing and the bands we will have personally chosen because a) we love them and b) noone else has given them a gig. Recently we put on Los Campesinos!, The Former Bullies and Sir Yes Sir. It was wonderful. Lots of good stuff coming up too.
