The Inmates were big on the Jersey Shore Teen Scene, they were all members of Long Branch High School. They won the State wide band contest in 1965 and were awarded a COLOMBIA recording contract! The youngest member ( Asch) being 12 years old and still in Junior high. Instead of releasing Imitation Alligator or Fakirs and Thieves Colombia decieded to go the Novelty route and released the 45 " Local Town Drunk" B/W " You Tell Lies". The 45 didn't chart and they were dropped but, not before recording an LP's worth of material which today exsists only on acetates, the master tapes having disappeared in the '70's when their manager Tommy Falccone died.
Lead by Drummer Sammy Falvo, Propelled by Bobby Nolan's Firey Gretsch Country Gentelman they crazied the Jersy Shore TEEN SCENE EVERYWHERE! From the Theaters and Beach Clubs , a thousand Auditoriums and outside, in the open air of Garfield Park across from the boardwalk in Long Branch.
Along with other Jersey Shore based bands like the TIKI's, The MODS, The ASCOTS, The CASTILLES they electrified the mid to late '60's night . Clubs like Asbury Park's The Pillow Talk, The Student Prince, The UpStage Club , the TEEN-D-VOUS, Church Fair's and Dance's are all a memory~NOW. The Jersey shore Teen Scene was extensive enough to have it's own fanzine based out of Allenhurst, only a handful of prized copies still exist. Equally rare is the INMATE'S Colombia 45.
Re-released in the 1980's on Greg Shaws Pebbles Records, Volume 51 ( due to Wayne's finding the acetates in Aschs basement ) they found a new release in the Neo-Psych Underground . They had two tracks released on the Pebbles Box set SO, here they are, Tracks long unheard! Long Branch's own THE INMATES!
