Reed Robins

I am a composer and musician who owns and operates a recording studio called MacIntyre Music , which is located in New York City in the Union Square district. I do all kinds of music. I grew up in Richmond Virginia, where I started playing guitar at age 8, and by junior high school was playing in bands. Mostly I played in a power trio called “Josita”. The guitar was also a way to cope with the relatively hellish military school environment that I found myself in after to getting in trouble in civilian life.
At about 16, back in the real world, I started studying jazz guitar, and a couple of years later went to Virginia Commonwealth University, where I received degree in music composition and classical guitar performance. I also took up the piano at that time, and began playing for modern and ballet dance classes. I was also writing a lot of orchestral music.
When I came to New York, I was out of the cozy environment of Richmond, and had to scale down my work, so I got some tape recorders and began doing recorded music for dance and theater here in the city. I also started an intense course of study with jazz piano great Mike Longo that lasted 7 years.
I fell into the job of recording for those dance and theater types, preparing their concert tapes and recording cues. As my skills progressed, I began doing bigger jobs, including writing film scores, TV and radio cues. In the mid 90’s, I recorded an album of my arrangements of Jimi Hendrix songs for solo jazz piano , and produced several other CDs. Lately, I’ve been mixing orchestral music, mastering and recording all sorts of performers. I’m finally back to working on my second release. Clips of which will be posted here in the future.
