Back in 1988 I remember seeing 'Hellbent On Compromise' in the bargain bin on tape, little did I know that growing up listening to The The, that Orange Juice was Edwyn's group and not Zeke's!
Always loved this classic tune since 1989, smart lyrics, and no lies at all, since John hates liars. Probably one of the best punk pop song ever written in the 80s.
Got into Split Enz at a wee age of 9 when I first heard 'I Got You' and then seeing them on early MTV. Still remember buying the first Crowded House debut tape! way before they were big, when I was 13.
The 90's was really a big Blur to me, and in my opinion they brought back britpop. Stone Roses were good though they only put out one album and took them 6 years for them to produce 'Second Coming' and eventually 'Turned Into Stone'. What do I think about Oasis? Three original members and one great replacement are no longer in the band, enuff said!
Paul and Steve have been a big soundtrack of my life since my college days, though always knew something was special about Paul when I first saw him on MTV in 1982 when 'A Town Called Malice' was on heavy rotation. Urban legend: I requested him to write this song for the girl I will always love!
I really liked Altered Images watching them on cable in the early 80s as a kid, and then Hipsway with their only album. The Honeythief was one of the best songs ever made. Though in 1988, I was searching the bargain cd bins, and got addicted to this band called Texas with their album 'Southside' with no pictures of the band whatsoever, with a sound and voice way ahead of anyone's time back then. Went back to the same store and listened to it everyday practically, though too broke to buy cd's all the time back then ha! Always knew then and now that there was something special about Shar and Johnny.
It's Joe Strummer, Mick, Paul, JL & the old BAD! What else can you ask for, some of the first punkers I ever read about as a 5 year old in 79, along with Blondie.
Funny story, back in 2000, I asked the bass player of this band, amongst another band, if he can play drums since I was trying to form a band, and he just said 'not formally', nice one Paul! ha!
I was into these dudes way before they made it big, Jason and Derrick, can you hear me!! ha!
To be honest, I was only like 8 when I first got into The Who thanks to a 20/20 special about aging 60's rockstars, and that was in 1981! ha! After seeing clips of Pete, Roger, and Keith going crazy on stage, it instantly clicked with my hyperactive behavior as a child! And then at the time I found out where solo Pete I had on a KTEL compilation, with 'Let My Love Open The Door' came from ha! Good to see Whitey and Minchella playing along in the 2005! ha!
Now this is a mod supergroup! It's about time these guys got together and kicked some ass!
