TOM GUERRA - Rock and Roll and Blues Guitarist

About Me

ABOUT TOM GUERRA Tom has been writing music and playing blues, rock n' roll and R&B electric guitar for over twenty five years, and for the past 10, has led indie rockers Mambo Sons.
Tom's first national exposure came in 1991 when talent scout Mike Varney magazine profiled him in Guitar Player magazine. Since then, Tom has recorded or played with Rick Derringer, Ronnie Earl, The Dirty Bones Blues Band, Kenny Aaronson, Alan St. Jon, Max Weinberg, Mark Nomad, The Easton Brothers, Muddy Waters bassist Charles Calmese, Jaimoe from The Allman Bros., Second Son, Guitar Shorty, Adolph Jacobs of The Coasters, and The Delrays. In 1999, Tom formed the rock and roll trio Mambo Sons (named after an old T. Rex track) with singer Scott Lawson, and together they have released three albums to date, including "Mambo Sons" with Rick Derringer (1999), "Play Some Rock & Roll!" (2002) and "Racket of Three" (2005). In 2002 Mambo Sons "Play Some Rock and Roll!" cd was named indie release of the year by NYRock magazine, and the trio's latest "Racket of Three" was named 2006 Album of the Year in Thailand. Mambo Sons is currently in the studio preparing their fourth cd, which may be a double album.
As a writer for several leading guitar publications including Vintage Guitar, Modern Guitar and Premier Guitar magazines, Tom has been able to speak with and learn from many legendary guitarists. Tom's chops have been praised by a range of players including Buddy Guy, Aerosmith guitarist Jimmy Crespo, The Who keyboardist Rabbit and Muddy Waters guitarist Bob Margolin. Since the early 1980's, his main songwriting partner has been the immensely talented singer / songwriter Scott Lawson, who also serves as Mambo Sons lead throat and bassist (as well as frontman for Orange Crush and Zip Cody).
Tom has recently become an endorsee for Brian Moore Custom guitars and DST-Engineering amplifiers. In addition, Tom recently joined the Editorial Board of ToneQuest Magazine following that publication's feature story on him in April '07, available for free download at www.TomGuerra.com
In April of '08, Tom appeared in NYTimes reporter Steve Kurutz's new book entitled "Like A Rolling Stone."
