Zip Cody

Scott Lawson's Alt-Country Ego

About Me

Zip Cody was created in 1998, as an outlet for Singer/Guitarist Scott Lawson (Orange Crush/Mambo Sons) to explore the dust-strewn rural back roads of American Roots music. After purchasing a dobro and a lap steel guitar - Zip made appearances with Roomful of Blues, Sleepy La Beef and Young Neil & The Vipers. Zip Cody performed regularly in the Boston, Worcester & Providence area, until he and his wife relocated to Western Mass in 2000. Before moving, Scott recorded some sessions with Jones on drums and an assortment of other good friends from Boston (including Chuck Vath on bass and Evan Harriman on keyboards) This lineup was known by many in the Boston area as a band called The Kingsleys, whom were a fixture at small, hip Boston & Cambridge nightclubs in the mid '90s. All huddled together once last time, in an oft-flooded basement, a full record's worth of original country & roots rock material was recorded on analog tape machines, crunchy old microphones & vintage tube amps. These recordings have been titled "The Comfy Sessions".
Scott Lawson still performs as "Zip" in a solo acoustic setting. He recorded and released tracks from his internet CD "Roswell Blues (2002) and most recently appeared as a guest vocalist for fellow rural roots rockers Drunk Stuntmen on their current CD "Trailer Life".
Scott also can also be seen singing and playing bass & guitar in both the original rock band Mambo Sons & '80s cover kings Orange Crush. He has released 3 CDs with Mambo Sons, and is working on a debut full-length release with OC for 2008.

I bought "Living With The Law" back in the early '90s, and was psyched for the future of blues music crossing over into popular music (even alternative rock, dare I thought) But, it didn't happen. May...
