Jay Jesse Johnson

About Me

Blues/Rock Guitarist, Jay Jesse Johnson has just released his third studio cd "Play That Damn Guitar" available at Grooveyard Records. Jay was born in rural Indiana and started playing guitar at the age of ten. He was playing bars and night clubs in Midwest America by the time he was 16 years old, performing blues-based rock, influenced by the music of the 60s and early 70s. The music he writes and performs is a testament to the loud and gritty sound that has inspired his own style of classic rock and blues. His recipe of original music, is far removed from the influence of the corporate machine and mainstream pop. Jay was the guitarist in the East coast band "Cryer" and was also the guitarist on the "Arc Angel" (CBS/Portrait) album. Some of his credits include several works by Arc Angels founding member, Jeff Cannata. You can also find him with friends, Charlie Huhn (Ted Nugent, Foghat) as well as Neal Smith and Dennis Dunaway, original drummer and bassist for Alice Cooper, on the "Deadringer" (Grudge/BMG) album. JAY JESSE JOHNSON'S first solo album "STRANGE IMAGINATION" released in 2006, features Jay on guitar and vocals, B J Zampa ( Dokken, House of Lords) on drums and bassist Ed Corvo. Grooveyard Records says; "For those who like Hendrix, Trower and Marino inspired playing, this cd delivers". In 2008, Jay Jesse Johnson released his second cd "I'VE GOT AN AX TO GRIND". This latest release pushes the limits of the blues/rock genre with a whole lot of loud guitar and over 60 minutes of classic blues and rock riffage. The new cd also features guest appearances by Charlie Huhn (Foghat, Gary Moore), Matt Zeiner (Dickie Betts), B J Zampa (Dokken), Steve Shore (Cryer) and Ed Corvo (Michael Cleary band) who add to the voodoo. Both cd's are available at cdbaby, iTunes, Grooveyard Records, Guitar Nine Records and a host of other music retail outlets. Look for JAY JESSE JOHNSON on tour, coming to a town near you. ";
