MySpace Layouts A brief history: the favorite sons of the Queen City -- Plainfield, New Jersey's The Doughboys were one of the most popular bands on the scene in Central Jersey in the mid to late 60's. They started out as The Ascots, but eventually changed their name to The Doughboys, and wore genuine World War I jackets as their band uniforms. They were regulars on Zacherle's Disc-o-teen, a teenage-dance-party TV show, and winning a year-long battle-of-the-bands contest on that program earned them a contract with Bell Records. Their two single releases, "Rhoda Mendelbaum" and "Everybody Knows My Name", produced by the Jerome Brothers, who also produced the Left Banke, are classics of mid 60's Americana rock and are sought-after collector's items. They also appeared on the "Clay Cole Show" and "Upbeat".The Doughboys played bills with such acts as The Beach Boys, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, Grand Funk Railroad, Question Mark & The Mysterians, and The Buckinghams, among many others. They were the House Band at the legendary Cafe Wha? in the summer of 1968.And now The Doughboys have reunited, and are once again blowing audiences away with their authentic brand of high energy rock'n'roll!Led by the charismatic Myke Scavone, who went on to front the mid-70's hard rock band, Ram Jam, who scored a hit with the song "Black Betty";propelled by the explosive drumming of Richard X. Heyman, an acclaimed singer/songwriter in his own right who's worked with Brian Wilson, Ben E. King and Peter Noone (who's recorded several of Richard's songs);and with the solid foundation of Mike Caruso on bass, who's worked with Tommy James, producers Bo Gentry and Kenny Laguna, and who in the course of session work jammed with Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Miles;along with the guitar artistry of Gar Francis who's worked with Billy Idol and in Stones cover band Sticky Fingers (Gar has replaced the recently deceased and tremendously missed Willy Kirchofer, the founding member of the Doughboys and the band's most innovative musician). The Doughboys' show recaptures the glory of mid-60's rock. They dig deep into the repertoires of the artists they cover, coming up with one crowd-pleasing gem after another.
