About Me

"Hip Hop is more than music. It has crossed cultural boundaries that other music genres never crossed. It’s not only the music you listen to, but also the way you walk, talk, dress and act. A state of mind, an entire generation""

SHAMMY DEE

review by Will O. 10.3.06

www.shammydee.com Shammy Dee@MySpace

Check it ya’ll Shammy Dee be in the hizzle. But we only try to be slightly ethnic. But seriously, our featured artist this time around is the one and only Shammy Dee, local DJ gone hip-hop artist with his debut CD Transcripted Thoughts. The album has that old school 60’s 70’s soul feel that we all love so much theses days, but with a twist. Hard honest lyrics. This isn’t some hip-hop album rapping about your usual assortment of gansta ho’s and grills. This is intellectual hip-hop/R&B as you’ll ever know it.

The man does everything. Producing and mixing his own cuts while doing vocals which apparently is something for being a DJ makes it hard for one to express his own feelings through words. This full length CD takes you on a soulful trip as he constructs as simpler time before the bling. There are a few guests on the album too, paring up with local artists Zandi De Jesus, Peace Be Free and The Feel Good Choir backing him up.

And this isn’t everything that Shammy Dee does. The man keeps himself busy through out the town.

You can find him On air with Jazz 88.3 - every 4th Wednesday night from 11:20 to Midnight DINO'S NITE CLUB & LOUNGE - every Saturday night from 9 - 2 am @PARTY ROCK Kadan's - the last Friday of the month And Illfonix FridayShammy Dee is an artist you should definitely check out. And buy buy buy his album. It’ll make you shake your groove thing and all other parts associated with it. And who says San Diego gots no hip-hop game.

THAT GUY

Maria is not your ordinary girl. In fact shes not a girl at all. Bit she is a tease. In his new single Maria, that guy calls out frustration, the voluptuous vixen that drives young talented men crazy: the music industry. That Guy a.k.a. TG, conveys his lust and vexation in true hip hop form, with cleverly woven rhymes sliding over a truly banging beat. A heavy handed bassline ensures that your head will be bobbing, while TGS carefully crafted verse is sure to make you think. Hes got that kind of smooth, straightforward voice you can follow paired with those loose lips-like Kanye thatll make you stutter (did he just say that?). TG is serious and it shows, with just enough attitude to keep things interesting.

Fresh on the scene, TG was given an opportunity rarely afforded to new-comers: the chance to work with a legendary producer the likes of the 45 King. A seasoned veteran of the music business, 45 King has been producing influential tracks for the past 20 years. Starting out with flava unit in the mid 80s, he helped to establish a brazen new rapper and beat boxer who, thanks in no small part to 45s attention grabbing production, quickly gained notoriety. She came to be known as Queen Latifah. He also at this time produced beats for Chill Rob G, among many others. In the late 90s he lent his magic touch to Jay Zs Hard Knock Life and Eminems Stan. Now hes backing the new kid again.

Supplying TGs manager and label executive Omar S. with numerous fresh beats, the only thing left to do was make a decision. Making sure that he chose the best new sound, Omar enlisted outside help.

Giving Maria that unmistakable 45 king sound (he is renowned for his precise and ingenious use of obscure samples, sourced mostly from old 45rpm records) has provided TG with a solid platform which to speak. He might be new, but TG knows an opportunity when he sees one. I saw it as a chance to be legit, to stand up straight and put my best work in front of the people. Midway through the song, he alleges, My caliber of words aint nothing, shes just worried about my image. Dont worry TG, Maria might be stuck up, but everyone else is listening.
