About Me

Jim Goodin and Daryl Shawn in the first 'Live' Chinapainting show
I'm a composer/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist living in Brooklyn, NY creating and performing music that is sometimes thought out and composed though more and more improvised. My music takes on influence from folk to World and Free Jazz. In the last year I've begun to use more technology including effects and looping tools such as Mobius .
I began playing violin in the summer of 07 after receiving an electric one as a Father's Day gift from my family. My skills are new and growing but my passion is intense as I explore this new instrument. I wouldn't say it's taking over my guitar work but more enhancing and exploring my overall musical path.
The pieces on this page are all improvised. An undercurrent is an interest in traditional and Applachian folk tunes.
As a performing musician I currently work both as a soloist and with the duos' Chinapainting with composer/guitarist/cassette tape loop artist Daryl Shawn and with author/composer/drummer/percussionist Will Romano in the collective, East of Where .
Support the music and work of composer/acoustic artist Jim Goodin through a monetary donation of your choosing.
