Jim Goodin and Will Romano - East of Where

About Me

Composer/guitarist Jim Goodin brings together the worlds of Celtic and classical modernism while weaving instrumental compositions of visual imagery combining the early influences of Michael Hedges and Will Ackerman and the eclectcism of Bill Frisell, Steve Reich and Steve Tibbetts. Jim Goodin takes listeners on a metaphoric journey of intrigue and mysticism through his tonal world ’stream of consciousness’.Jim Goodin’s path has truly been one of not laying comfortably in one area but evolving as his inspiration and creativity has grown. Out of that path in recent years Jim met World/rock percussionist extraordinaire Will Romano. Initially, their work together was defined by Goodin’s solo compositions. They have since pushed themselves and the boundaries of the music. Ever evolving, their transient work often mutates into ambient and hypnotic trance-rock. Together this collective is known as East of Where meaning the fusing of many influences but knowing no boundaries. Will Romano plays more than drums and is much more than a drummer. While he carries his influences of Andy Newmark, Wil Calhoun, Billy Cobham, Neil Peart and many other rock, jazz and blues luminaries close he quickly moves beyond the realm of conventional drumming realizing that the universe and the objects around him are his orchestra. In this journey listeners will experience him finding a canvas in broken guitars, air conditioning ventilation coils and bicycle spoked wheels.Jim Goodin’s allocades include publication with the Mel Bay Company , an endorsing artist/clinician for GHS Strings , an endorsing artist for Godin Guitars and on the roster of artists recording at Windham Hill pioneer Will Ackerman’s personal studio Imaginary Road. Jim Goodin is additionally owner/founder of Wood and Wire Music , an independent Internet record label helping promote several unique and challenging artists. In addition to Will Romano’s diverse performance background playing for many New York area bands and collectives prior to working with Goodin he is also a fine wordsmith having written for several music publications including Blues Revue, Guitar Player and Modern Drummer. Recently he’s released a novel on blues legend Hubert Sumlin for Backbeat Books and is presently working on a second book for them about Jimmy Reed.Jim Goodin’s performance trail has known both US coasts and many spots in between. As a GHS Strings clinician he has played in Sam Ash stores across the country. Joined by Will Romano, Jim Goodin’s East of Where has performed in many chic New York and New England venues including the legendary CBGB’s.Experience the hypnotic musicial collective of Jim Goodin and Will Romano in East of Where ."They [EoW] used an acoustic guitar with a lot of added effects, and a drum set made of random pieces including a whole guitar. The drummer [Will Romano] would hit these random pieces creating some very unusual rhythms while the guitarist [Jim Goodin] laid down some trippy lines." - Chris Clark, Hamden Daily News, CT on 7-18-06 EoW show at The Space .
