DAVE BARKER

About Me

When Double Barrel shot to the top of the British charts back in 1971 Dave Barker the other half of Dave and Ansell Collins had been sitting comfortably at the top off the reggae tree Dave has been on and off the charts with such regularity he would make many DJs cry with envy. He has made it with different types of music Soul, Ska, Reggae and types best called Fusion. Some you can call toast, some you call singing. He is a flexible and talented songwriter.Though he has been working and recording with some of the legends of reggae back home in Kingston Jamaica since he was in his early teens it wasn’t untill Double Barrel that things really took of for him and he also hit the british charts once again with Monkey spanner which made the top twenty.Dave has also recorded for the likes of Sonia Pottinger, Lee Perry, Duke Reid, Bunny Lee, Harry J to name a few, It was while with Lee Perry he recorded Prisoner of love and Shocks almighty and meet up with The Wailers and recorded Don’t let the sun catch you crying with The Wailers on harmonies also check out his classic with Bunny Wailer the unforgettable What a confusion Dave also went on to recorded for Lloyd Charmers with that great cover of the Temptations classic track just my Imagination. It was in 1971 that Dave left Jamaica for England where he appeared twice on Top of the pops and went on to tour England, Scotland, Wales and Belgium after four months he returned to Jamaica to record the tracks for the Double Barrel album then returning to England to complete the tour. At this time Dave signed an agreement with Trojan records. For a while Dave sang with Jazz funk giants Cargo, led by keyboard wizard. Mike Carr, brother of trumpeter Ian. This was a marvellous period for Dave. The group ran their own Cargo gold production label, toured extensively and achieved a number of hits on the various charts, and had the critics saying all the right things. It wasn’t long before Dave returned once again to the British and American Charts with Cargos Do It. The record was a massive seller throughout Europe and reaches the lower section of the US chart and made it in the top 40 in Britain.Artist over the years have changed from Reggae to Soul singers but none have pulled it off as successfully as Dave he has always been right up there with all the legends, carving and shaping the way for music.Dave has been a great ambassador for Jamaican music and is still in great demand appearing in England and EuropeDOUBLE BARREL
