BIOGRAPHY Omar Perry was born in Kingston Jamaica in 1968, a youngster who had the privilege of having a father such as the legendary producer and songwriter Lee “Scratch” Perry. At the tender age of 6, he and his little sister Marsha got the chance of recording on some of their father’ songs such as “Thanks we get” by Junior Byles and “Ram Goat Liver” by Pluto Shervington. Omar, at that age, was interested in playing the drums, growing up in such a musical environment, watching some of the greatest artists that ever worked in his father’s studio, the “Black Ark” : Max Romeo, Junior Murvin, Bob Marley with the Wailers, …. Omar knew one day he would dedicate his life to the Music. After leaving school as a teenager in the mid 80s, he decided to form a group with his brother Sean and sister Marsha. They were called “the Upsetter Juniors” which they performed at small gigs and talent concerts, started their own record label under the same name, produced a few local artists and their only single “Positive Vibration”. After splitting from the group by 1990, Omar became drawn by the music and began to find his own way. To understand the music more, he started working as an engineer in a 4 tracks studio by a friend then, met Boris Gardener who had an 8 tracks studio at that time. So reaching 24 tracks at Junior Reid’s “One Blood” studio was a big accomplishment for him where he worked with artists like Tyrone Taylor, Big Youth, Terry Ganzie and Jah Mason. After leaving Jamaica in 1996, heading for new arising, Omar found himself travelling to Africa, a place he had dreamt of. For 4 years, Omar established himself as a Reggae ambassador in the Gambia, took the opportunity to be a Disc Jockey playing on the national radio station “radio 1”, night clubs and local venues in small villages. After leaving a trail of the Reggae storm in Africa, he set himself a new goal. The challenge was Europe. On reaching the European scene by 2000 as a Disc Jockey, Omar did not waste time in making himself an household name not only as a Disc Jockey but to be seen as a performer as well. Bringing his style to perfection, Omar lives and works in Belgium. He performed at festivals such as Couleur Café, Dour, Fêtes de la Musique and venues l’Ancienne Belgique, VK* club, as support act for Sly & Robbie + Mykal Rose, Buju Banton, Horace Andy, Alton Ellis, collaborating with a few big names such as Dreadzone, Mafia & Fluxy, Mad Professor and Ruff Cutt, featured with Ghetto Priest, Earl Sixteen, Dub Incorporation and K2R Riddim. In 2003, Adrian Sherwood produced his first single entitled “Rasta Meditation” (collector). While working on a small tour with Horace Andy in 2005, he met Guillaume “Stepper” Briard, who not only is a musician but a producer as well. Stepper seeing Omar’s potential, they decided to work together in the launching of his first album. Since 2006, he has been working on a very high level that can be reckoned as a positive career. His first so awaited album “Man Free” is to be released by “No Direction Home/Corner Shop” on the 19th November 2007. The recent successful 2007 French tour with Jah Mason was just a taste of what is yet to come. Omar Perry is a natural performer, an act for sure we can say, is as good as the best. On a mission, he soon will confirm his rightful place.

BIOGRAPHIE Omar Perry, né à Kingston - Jamaïque en 1968, a eu le privilège d’avoir comme père le légendaire Lee “Scratch” Perry. À l’âge de 6 ans, Omar et sa petite soeur Marsha ont la chance d’enregistrer quelques chansons du répertoire de leur père telles que “Thanks we get” de Junior Byles et “Ram Goat Liver” de Pluto Shervington. À cette époque, grandissant dans un environnement musical fréquentant les plus grands artistes de l’avènement du Reggae qui ont pu profiter du génie de Lee Perry lors d’enregistrements dans le studio “Black Ark” : Max Romeo, Junior Murvin, Bob Marley accompagnés des Wailers, Omar s’initie à la batterie. Omar était prédestiné à consacrer sa vie à la musique. Mais il lui fallait tracer son propre chemin. Adolescent, il quitte l’école dans les années 80’s et décide de former un groupe avec son frère Sean et sa soeur Marsha. Ils l’appellent “the Upsetter Juniors” et créent leur propre label du même nom, jouent de temps à autre quelques concerts, produisent quelques artistes locaux ainsi que leur unique single “Positive Vibration”. Le groupe se dissout en 1990, mais Omar a trouvé sa voie. Il commence une carrière d’ingénieur du son, et il travaille dans le studio d’un de ses amis équipé de 4 pistes avant de rencontrer Boris Gardener qui lui fera profiter d’un équipement de 8 pistes. La boucle sera bouclée au studio “One Blood” de Junior Reid avec 24 pistes où il travaille avec des artistes tels que Tyrone Taylor, Big Youth, Terry Ganzie et Jah Mason. En 1996, Il quitte la Jamaïque pour s’envoler vers l’Afrique ce dont il a toujours rêvé. Pendant 4 ans, Omar se fait ambassadeur du Reggae en Gambie lors d’animations DJ sur Radio Nationale 1, dans quelques clubs et parcourt les villages en faisant de nombreux concerts. Laissant l’empreinte du Reggae en Afrique, Omar se fixe un nouvel objectif : l’Europe. Il se produit rapidement en DJ - sélecteur et micro – dans un premier temps pour atteindre plus récemment la scène live. Véhiculant son style, Omar vit et travaille actuellement en Belgique où il se produit régulièrement, notamment dans les festivals Couleur Café, Dour, Fêtes de la Musique, ou dans les salles l’Ancienne Belgique, VK* club, ou encore en première partie de Sly & Robbie + Mykal Rose, Buju Banton, Horace Andy, Alton Ellis. Parallèlement, il collabore également avec quelques noms établis tels que Dreadzone, Mafia & Fluxy, Mad Professor, Ruff Cutt, enregistre avec Ghetto Priest, Earl Sixteen, Dub Incorporation et K2R Riddim. En 2003, Adrian Sherwood produit son premier single “Rasta Meditation” (devenu collector). Alors qu’il participe à une tournée d’Horace Andy en 2005, Omar rencontre Guillaume “Stepper” Briard lequel, en plus d’être un musicien de talent, est aussi producteur. “Stepper” voyant en Omar le potentiel de la nouvelle génération, ils décident de travailler ensemble à la production de son premier album. En 2006, Omar entame ainsi l’étape supérieure qui annonce une carrière prometteuse. « No direction home / Corner Shop » sortira son premier - tant attendu - album “Man Free” le 19 novembre 2007. Le récent succès en 2007 d’une tournée en France avec Jah Mason n’était qu’un avant-goût de ce qu’Omar Perry réserve à la scène : authentique et présent, il confirmera bientôt le statut qu’il mérite.
