ROOTS DYNAMIC SOUNDSYSTEM is the observation of the African/Caribbean musical and cultural diaspora and the representation of the international Roots and Foundation Reggae movement -- from the originators in Jamaica to the British movements to the New York scene, to the musicians of various nationalities from far and abroad who continue to bless the world with the greatest music genre in the world. A divine celebration, if you will.
Reggae artist/deejay, veteran selector/disc jockey, and media analyst Daddy Lion Chandell launched the Roots Dynamic Soundsystem in 2003 during his time at the Easy Star Reggae Tuesdays at the former Black Star Bar in the East Village area of NYC, as a regular deejay with Mellowman Lenny B. and Selektah Twice.
Today, Roots Dynamic is stronger than ever, operating both as itself and also as part of BLACK MOSES SOUNDSYSTEM, the original Jamaican soundsystem founded the legendary Head Cornerstone Clive Chin of Randy's Studio 17 and the 17 North Parade label!
Continuing in his tradition of true journalism and cultural and historical preservation, Daddy Lion Chandell is the primary writer for 17 North Parade, the new, long-overdue, prestigious imprint of VP Records specially devoted to classic Reggae music and honoring the major contribution to the genre by the legendary Chin family and the legacy of Randy's Studio 17!
Roots Dynamic is an avid supporter of the underground movement (especially of many of the sounds and labels coming from the UK) and the voices who stand for culture and justice musically and otherwise, in a serious mission to re-educate the lost souls of their rightful place in this music. As such, we are a promotional vehicle, and so we alert all those who recognize Roots Dynamic Soundsystem's position and those who are aware that we may not have any of your music, feel free to contact us if you have any material to forward over to us to play out. Vinyl is most preferred, but CD is most definitely welcome, of course.
Long Live The Vinyl... VINYL IS FOREVER! ROOTS DYNAMIC MIXES
Roots Dynamic Halcyon Mix 8
Even during a weary day in November 2005,
Daddy Lion brings forth the musical gift of
royalty, righteousness, and truth from
Empress Ayeola, Mykal Rose, Steel Pulse, Matumbi, Tony Brevett,
Roy Shirley, Madoo & General Echo, Grubrick, Derrick Harriott, and more!

Roots Dynamic Halcyon Mix 9
The Roots Warrior continues with sweetness from
Derrick Harriott, Jackie Paris, 10 Ft. Ganja Plant,
Glen Brown, Sister Nancy, The Wailers, The Heptones,
Little Youth, Steel Pulse, and so much more!

Roots Dynamic Halcyon Mix 10
First mix of '06 comes with but a few technical difficulties,
yet still blessed with sounds from The I-Threes, Dezarie,
Midnite, The Chosen Few, Bruce Ruffin, Dandy Livingstone,
Del Davis, Dennis Brown, The Stingers, Delroy Wilson
and don't ask how much more we have in store!

Roots Dynamic Halcyon Mix 11
One of Daddy Lion's favorite mix sessions, this is the last 2006 mix before hiatus,
as we hail homage to the originators, with scorchers from
Lee "Scratch" Perry, John Holt, Johnny Clarke
Clinton Fearon & The Boogie Brown Band
and Pressure Cooker,
and pay tribute to the dearly departed with music from
Slim Smith, Hortense Ellis, Bob Marley & The Wailers
and most recently Brent Dowe, Justin Hinds, and Clancy Eccles!!!
I... am the MAGNIFICENT... W-O-O-O!
Here's the ever-so-elusive performance of
the 1971 Techniques/Trojan INTERNATIONAL smash hit "Double Barrel"
from none other than
DAVE & ANSEL COLLINS
on the UK's longest-running (and now-recently cancelled)
music show "Top Of The Pops" !!!
Fortunately for us, we get to hear a more live soul-shocking shack-attack from DAVE BARKER himself over the backing track. And although he clearly stumbled at probably the most crucial part of the tune, he proves still that he truly is "the magnificent"!
ROY SHIRLEY, one of the original early Rocksteady legends,
who sadly departed life on earth at the age of 64 in July 2008,
gets down and soulful with brass icon RICO RODRIGUEZ
and an unknown rocking Reggae band
armed with a bonafide fire Queen ..board
on the UK music show "Aquarius".
The King Of Rocksteady and Reggae Soul, ALTON ELLIS
gets down with one of the greatest bands in the world
LLOYD PARKS & THE WE-THE-PEOPLE BAND
in a coordinatedly harmonious rendition of Ellis' timeless sufferer's anthem
"Black Man's Pride" at Reggae Sunsplash 1983!
Probably the ultimate rarity of rarities:
Vaughn & Ron Benjamin of MIDNITE
come forth in royalty and speak
Word, Sound, and Power at legendary
San Diego TV station, XETV Fox Channel 6
on February 18, 2002 before the Bob Marley Day Festival.
Veteran roots & harmony band ASWAD give Germany a taste of rebel soul
on their long-running music show, Rockpalast on July 3, 1980.
Catch a rare visual glimpse of co-lead singer Brinsley Forde to match
his purely unmistakable voice as ASWAD declares "Rainbow Culture"
(a.k.a. "Children Of The Rainbow"), [Grove Music/Island (UK), 1980],
a single-only release that never made it to album until its 1981 remix
on their Showcase EP [Grove Music/Island (UK)]
Take close consideration as this video vinyl is deadly!
Another LIVE performance that indeed should have been issued on wax--
much, much sweeter than the studio original!
Get ready to PULL UP!!!!

Original "Trojan man" from birth!
For those who never take I seriously, see me now and witness it for real!

"The Madman" SELEKTAH TWICE
killing ALL bad minds and ALL weak sounds
ALL at the same time!!!

No one could ever refuse the Head Cornerstone!
CLIVE CHIN of Randy's Records
is the man with the "IMPACT!" in his hands!

The mission moves on...
The VINYL LIVES ON!!!
Daddy Lion represents Roots Dynamic
with the legendary BUNNY LEE!

Original deejay DENNIS ALCAPONE
performs "The Great Buga Wuga"
in a tribute perfomance to the
late, great organist Jackie Mittoo
(NOTE: The sound is a little faint due to tape quality.)
QUEEN IFRICA, one of the most revered, most-talked-about,
and most vibrant, powerful voices of Roots Reggae
in the 21st century and of all time speaks out against
Black-on-Black mental war and street violence with her
true-to-the-Heart track "No Love Again" [Penthouse, 2004]
on a Nyahbinghi reconstruction of The Wailers' 1978 tune, "Time Will Tell".
Feel the pain within as the Soul of a Goddess
cries out for self-awareness and self-betterment.

JUDGE DREAD
the first major white Reggae artist performs the 1980 live band remake of his debut hit -- the 1972 Trojan classic, "Big Six" -- on a German variety show.
"Big Six" utilized the "Little Boy Blue" rhythm,
produced in 1971 by Alvin G.G. Ranglin and performed originally by The Maytones.
MIDNITE rocks the massive of France
with one of their trademark declarations,
"Rasta To The Bone"
originally released in 2000 on their Jubilees Of Zion album.
Courtesy of Digitron Records,
an underground UK indie label of sorts,
a celebration of the music of their main hero
BIG YOUTH
with the visual aid of various
record labels from his discography, with his hard-hitter, "Keep Your Dread" as the soundtrack [Sun Shot (JA), 1975].
From their sweeter beginnings, about 5 years
before they would completely abandon the
rich Roots Reggae sound for an excruciatingly long time
UK legends STEEL PULSE perform "Prodigal Son",
one of their trademark tunes from their
still-highly acclaimed debut album Handsworth Revolution
[Island (UK)/Mango-Island (US), 1978]
followed by a short interview clip.

AUGUSTUS PABLO, the man whose name is synonymous with Dub and who introduced the world to the melodica and all its mystics, blesses the stage of Japansplash in 1986 with his 1972 Randy's hit "Java". This video is a treat especially for those who have never had the pleasure of hearing the master of melodica speak.
