About Me

I started playing bass in punk rock bands when I was 16. Performing in Dallas and all over Texas, I shared the stage with the Circle Jerks, Minutemen, and the Butthole Surfers. In 1989, with many repeated performances in Austin, I decided to move to the city.1991 marked my “Grunge” period touring and recording with Faucet. It was a great time opening up for Fugazi, The Jesus Lizard, Helmet, and Hole. Burned out on rock I decided to teach myself to read, write, and arrange music. Within a few years I wrote two CDs of string arrangements for the band Pearly Gates that featured the newly formed Tosca String Quartet. In 1998 I started Get It On Productions. I wrote and recorded two CDs while leading the band. This group would often perform with the Scabs, Ian Moore, and Pong. When I was 21, I went on tour with the Rollins Band as their guitar-tech roadie. It's the Rollins Band who turned me onto jazz. They played jazz CDs all the time on the road and talked about jazz artists. This experience created a love affair with jazz that I flirted with on and off until finally in 2005 I committed myself to playing jazz full time. I lead my own quartet and play with many of the city’s great jazz musicians. This is the name of my company: www.Sean Hopper Events.com

My Interests

I like to stay on the sunny side of life....that's why I'll do anything to get out of my cheap-ass self. This includes meditiation, running, riding my bike, Kundalini Yoga. I do like to drink...if I'm going to knock them back, it's usually with old friends...I have many.
