About my passionHey Everyone! my name is Jen.. Thanks for visiting my "organic" space. I'm quite optimistic with this space that I have made. I hope to motivate and inspire others to become more involved with the enviroment and to have more knowledge on what organic truely is.My definition of organic would be:
To live a natrually healthier and longer life, that will help sprout creativity from the soul. and I don't mean only food I mean everything! When I started buying and enjoying facts about organic foodI I liked it more than I thought. Then about a month later I opened my eyes and noticed that there was more to an organic world than just food. It made me happy to realize that there where alot of other ways to keep the enviroment to be a more healthier, beautiful, and more sustainable and natrual place to live. So soon I started to become even more organic than I already was,and did it feel good!Even if you're not organic, just starting to get into organic or if you're organic,it dosn't matter we all have an impact on the earth also known as your enviromental footprint. Even so they're lots of things that you can do to reduce your footprint and show your love for the earth. Some examples are: Recycling
Not using plastic bags by buying your own reusable bags when you're out shopping.
Shutting of lights when you leave a room, computers,TVs etc. when you are not using them
Buying energy efficient light bulbs
Using recycled products
Do more natrual exercise like riding a bike or swimming
These are just a few examples.
We should all care for the earth...and get cared for in return.
Let's make this happen! Every little step to helping makes a big difference.
Thank YOU for caring! :)
I believe that someday I might change the world in a positive way but of course I will need help from other people and that is where you guys come in. It's hard for the world to change if not enough people help out or if they don't care, but then again every little step to helping the enviroment counts (no matter how small it is) like just buying eco-friendly toilet paper can do alot. The hurtful truth is that global warming IS happening, but if everyone gives a helping hand then that may very well change, and possibly save the future for thousands of people and generations. I'm sure that together we CAN help to make a difference! :)I will keep this space updated on eco-friendly tips and what websites and spaces you can go to for more information. save this:
***WHAT IS ORGANIC?*** Organic refers to food grown without synthetic pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, hormones, fertilizers or other synthetic or toxic substances for a three-year minimum. No artificial flavors or colors have been added. Organic certification excludes foods that have been irradiated as well as GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). In October 2002 the U.S. Department of Agriculture passed a new national standard for organic labeling, which includes three classifications. If the label says:one hundred percent Organic. The product contains only organically produced ingredients. It may bear the USDA Organic seal.Organic. The product contains at least ninety five percent organic ingredients. The USDA Organic seal may be used.Made with Organic Ingredients. Contains at least sevendy percent organic ingredients. The product does not qualify to carry the USDA organic seal.

ORGANIC FIGHTS WORLD HUNGER.

*~Organic systems in developing nations yield up to 80 percent more than do conventional systems. Without adding more farmland, growers in the developing world could meet or exceed the current food demand by using natural methods like crop rotation.

Research shows that the fertile soil associated with organic farming aids crop flexibility in harsh weather.

Optimistic about the future of organic farming, scientists say, "These results indicate thet organic agriculture has the potential to contribute quite substantially to the global food supply while reducing the detrimental enviromental impacts of conventional agriculture. -tasteforlife~*

Here is some more info: Climate change will have a huge impact on human health, and bold environmental policy decisions are needed now to protect the world’s population, according to the author of an article published last week in the British Medical Journal.

10 real facts and tips about ORGANIC.

1.It's Healthy

On average, organic food contains higher levels of vitamin C and essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and cancer fighting antioxidants.

2.No nasty additives.

Organic food dosn't contain food additives which can cause health problems such as heart disease, osteoporosis, migraines, and hyperactivity. Amongst the additives banned by the soil association are hydronated fat, aspertame(artificial sweetener) and monosodium glutamate.

3.Avoids pesticides

Over 400 chemical pesticides are routinely used in conventional farming and residues are often present in non-organic food. The UK government has recently found high levels of pesticide residues in baby food, spinach, dried fruit, bread, apples, celery, and chips.

4.No GM

Genetically modified(GM)crops and ingredients are not allowed under organic standards.

5.Reliance on drugs removed

There is growing concern about the high use of antibiotics on farm animals and the possible effects on human health.Soil association standards prohibit the routine use of antibiotics.

6.No hidden costs

Compare with the 120m that tax payers fork out to pay for chemicals to be removed from drinking water, mainly as a result of the pesticides used in farming.

7.High standards

Organic food comes from trusted sources. All organic farms and food companies are inspected at least once a year. The standards for organic are laid down in european law.

8.care for animals

Animal welfare is taken very seriously under organic standards. The benifits of the organic approach are acknowledged by animal welfare organisations such as compassion in world farming as well as the UK government.

9.Good for wildlife and the enviroment.

The UK government has said that it is better for wildlife, causes lower pollution from sprays, produces less carbon dioxide-the main global warming gas-and less dangerous wastes.

10.Top for taste

Many people prefer organic food because they say it tastes better. a number of top chefs choose organic.

Here is the short list of the benefits of organic food. :)

No pesticide, herbicide, fungicide residues on food Less chlorine chemistry into our environment. No synthetic fertilizer residuals built into plants No genetically engineered organisms or varieties. Intense, realistic flavors. Higher vitamin content Higher mineral content and greater mineral variety. Don't forget, the best way to get fresh, organic fruits and vegetables is by growing them in your own garden

Organic farmers have a strong commitment to their land. If they don't abuse the land, it will provide for them and their families for many years to come. They are far less likely to use the kind of agricultural processes which result in: loss of topsoil toxic runoff and resulting water pollution soil contamination and poisoning death of insects, birds, critters and beneficial soil organisms -sustainableenterprises

Some reasons why we should eat ORGANIC.

Keep us healthier and live longer. Helps the enviroment. Makes you feel good. Helps stop global warming.

“Climate change is beginning to damage our natural life-support system,” says epidemiologist Tony McMichael, PhD, a professor of public health at the Australian National University. Health risks include:

The impact of heat waves, floods and wildfires Changes in infectious-disease patterns The effect of worsening food yields Loss of livelihoods The World Health Organization estimates one-fourth of the world’s disease burden is caused by contamination of air, water, soil and food. Climate change will cause disease rates to soar (particularly respiratory and diarrheal diseases), Dr. McMichael says. While global warming is unlikely to cause entirely new diseases, it will alter the incidence, range and seasonality of many existing health disorders. This means that by 2080, for example, between 20 million and 70 million more people could be living in malarial regions.

Adverse health effects will be much greater in low-income countries and vulnerable subpopulations. “Poverty cannot be eliminated while environmental degradation exacerbates malnutrition, disease and injury,” Dr. McMichael says. “Food supplies need continuing soil fertility, climatic stability, freshwater supplies and ecological support, such as pollination. Infectious diseases cannot be stabilized in circumstances of climatic instability, refugee flows and impoverishment.”

The relationship between the environment and health is complex. For example, as India modernizes, experts expect its population’s health to improve, but industrialization also means a rapidly increased level of coal-burning and greater global emissions. This, in turn, leads to climate change, whose impact is felt most by vulnerable populations.

The global changes we’re now seeing are unprecedented in their scale, Dr. McMichael concludes, and our healthcare systems should develop strategies to deal with the resulting increase in disease and injury. More far-sighted policy decisions must be taken at the national and international levels to arrest the process. Health professionals “have both the opportunity and responsibility to contribute to resolving this momentous issue,” he says. This information was taken from organic autority.

"Once released into the enviroment, the spread of pesticides cannot be controlled. Radioactively traced pesticides sprayed over in the united kingdom were detected five to seven days later in the southern USA."-tasteforlife

"It's true that the body is well equiped to de-toxify itself," replies Ann Louise Gittleman,PHD,CNS, "but it is not well-equiped to face the unprecedented numbers of contaminants in our food, water, and air." -tasteforlife

Gabrielle Christian and Bessie Sorge have come together to help raise awareness and funds for the SIDS and FAIR Fund foundations. They have created an ebay account which will be used to place various items for auction to help support these great causes.
With your help we have already raised $1,200 for FAIR Fund through this auction process. That money has helped FAIR Fund obtain an apartment for six of the girls to live and has paid for the first three months of their rent, it also helped pay for part of their supplies.
Please pass on the news about this to all of your family members and friends so that we can help make a difference in the lives of others!
The auction website is located at: http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZfunds4acause
If you are unable to purchase any of the items listed for sale, then a small donation to both foundations will be of great help.
