MARK WEINSTEIN JAZZ FLUTIST

About Me

I am blessed. I play music with world-class musicians in a range of jazz styles, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, Straight Ahead and more. It is my dream come true! After a successful career as a trombonist and a Ph.D in Philosophy. I started playing the flute in my mid-thirties. I began recording seriously in the 1990's and am just finishing my 17th CD on flute. I play concert, alto and bass flutes. I see myself as following the path that Herbie Mann took, playing flute and nothing but flute, with the greatest musicians and playing music of the world. My most recent release on Jazzheads, 'Straight, No Chaser' with Dave Stryker, guitar, Ed Howard, bass and Victor Lewis drums has hit the charts. Con Alma (2007) was on the charts 26 months, hit 1 on the JazzWeek World Music Chart and 2 on the Jazz Chart. My next album to be released October, 2008 on Jazzheads, 'Lua e Sol' is with Romero Lubambo, guitar, Nilson Matta, bass and Cyro Baptista, percussion I recently turned 4 hours of free jazz recorded in Berlin with Omar Sosa, Jean Paul Bourelly and African musicians into a CD. And I have had a very busy recording schedule, an album with piano master Kenny Barron, Nilson Matta and drummer Marcello Pellitteri, another with master percussionist Pedrito Martinez and a group of super-hot Cuban musicians, featuring a phenomenal young pianist Alex (Tosca) Laugart. And one more with bassist Pablo Aslan and three other masters of the tango.
