Jazz & Bossa Nova

About Me

This singer / song writer was born "Yasmin Carvalho da Rocha Leão" in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, coming from the generation that revolutionized the spirit, sound and style, Yashmin came to acquire and harness a uniquely Brazilian sound. As a poet Yashmins' soul was profoundly touched by the conversation of Bossa Nova. The influences of Vinicius de Moraes, Antônio Carlos Jobim and João Gilberto became her inspiration and calling for a future paved among the artistic movement in Rio de Janeiro with the contemporaries of the Bossa Nova.Yashmins education includes the prestigious Música de Minas Escola Livre, a progressive music academy established by two of the most influential musicians from the post-Bossa Nova era Milton Nascimento and Wagner Tiso and the Oficina de Teatro e Drama de Minas (Theater School) directed by Pedro Paulo Cava. Combining both the interpretation of drama and music added an exclusive layer to her performances. Within these artistic academies her soothing, sensual voice and passionate emotion stood out among her peers. Soon her professional ability lead her to a dual career as a radio disc jockey, while at the same time performing in some of the most exclusive nightclubs and lounges in Rio. Her love affair with Bossa Nova music continues to this very day. Yashmin now is based in New York City Area, and is married to Jazz guitarist / composer Paul Abler. Together they compose and perform throughout the country.Yashmin has performed and/or recorded with James Carter, Juan Colon, Paul Abler, Sean Smith, Cameron Brown, Adriano Santos, Sean Smith, Helio Alves, David Kikoski, Ted Rosenthal, John DiMartino, The Spirit of Life Ensemble, Chip Jackson, Calvin Hills, Allen Farmham and many others.Merging the harmonies of Bossa Nova and other Brazilian Flavors with a unique Latin Jazz style, Yashmin has created an irresistible blend of melody and rhythm that will certainly move your hearts, souls and bodies. Stunningly mellow with great guitar enhancing her multi-lingual voiceIf you're in a kicked back mode, this is the cd to listen to. Songs in English, Spanish, and Portuguese soothe the savage beast with some familiar tunes. The accompanying guitar gently wraps around her vocals making for a stunningly sexy sound. Extremely enjoyable for your listening pleasure. Reviewer: A.L..Alcalá***.. ************************************************************ ****** About Remember Me:“Remember Me” is the premier collaboration between Brazilian vocalist / lyricist Yashmin Charnet-Abler and guitarist / composer Paul Abler. This is truly a fusion of Bossa Nova, Samba, Jazz, Funk & Blues influences. Nine melodic originals combined with Bacharach’s Estou Amando Voce (This girl is in love with you in Portuguese) and Caetano Veloso’s Tigresa. You will remember these wonderful songs long after the CD is over!

"I'm reminded of a Russian film set in the pre-Democratic U.S.S.R.. The main character dreams of Brazil, the warm and sunny beaches, the beautiful women. He wears a white suit around the streets of his oppressive city feeling somehow this will bring him closer to his dream. This unpretentious recording of Yashmin Charnet might serve as your white suit for it quietly lifts the heart, a 47 minute dream of Brazil."Jerry Jensen Writer for Just Jazz Guitar *** David Kikoski - Piano*** Enrique Lopez - Guitar*** Ross Schneider - Harmonica*** Caco Oliveira - Percussion***Produced by Steve Messina***Yashmin Charnet is a unique and gifted woman.
