Meriendacena was born like a Flamenco fusion project of Spanish musicians living in Rotterdam with the idea of making music with Spanish taste.
Holland has been always a country that takes care of every cultural expression. Here arts have a good status in society and the possibilities for artistic development are better here than in the most European countries. This is why lots of artist from all around Europe are coming to Holland searching a good space to produce their art.
That is the case of the members from Meriendacena. They came to Holland separately searching for this musical scene and after a while they get together by the necessity of share the common passion they have for Flamenco. Rotterdam brought them the perfect framework for this project because of its big multi-ethnical scene.
Meriendacena started as a need of explore a new sound coming from the roots of Flamenco but dressed with several nice flavors due to their different backgrounds (Jazz, Latin, Classic, Blues, Samba) in a fresh combination.
They were playing during their first year of life in Holland with some great collaborations like Eva de Dios and Alexander Preuss. But is not until summer 2007 that they travel to Spain to make a tour around Andalusia, and return like the prodigal son to their motherland with a great acceptation from critics and the collaborations in this case of Mati Gomez on voice and dance and Olga on dance.
Now they are back in Rotterdam and preparing the next season with enthusiasm.
