The professional biography of Lakshmi Basile is crossed, like a destiny written in the stars, by her personal life, her precedent and her determination. With this, the road of San Diego, California, to Seville, Spain, has a different logic, which is that of the dreams and the memory. She was born and grew in a family environment of parents’ musicians and artists, in fact she accompanied her parent’s gypsy music band, The Electrocarpathians, and had her professional début with the age of 16. Shortly after Lakshmi makes contact with the flamenco dancer Antonio Vargas, who receives her as his apprentice.In Santa Barbara Lakshmi becomes the principal dancer in the company Pacific Action Dance Theatre, directed by maestra Ana Galindo. She studies Classical Ballet and Contemporary in the University of California, Santa Barbara.In 2000 she presents her choreography Webbed Feet. Immersed in the Flamenco and determined to complete its formation, in 2002 travels to Spain to study with the different gypsy dance teachers: The Farrucos, Angelita Vargas, Juana Amaya, Yolanda Heredia and Concha Vargas. By that time begins to leave her trademark in La Carboneria, El Palacio Andaluz, La Feria de Abril and different flamenco shows and peñas. Lakshmi is renamed in the flamenco circles as ¨La Chimi¨ and is with this name she debuts in the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla de 2004.¨La Chimi¨ returns to United States to create her own company, Luna Flamenca Dance Company, the one with which she alternates her professional career in Spain and the one where she creates Flamenco en la cocina (Flamenco in the kitchen), in 2006, and Trois (Three), in 2007. José Tarriño, the flamenco fashion designer, took her as model of his 2007 collection. 2008 it is an effervescent year for Lakshmi: participates again in the Bienal de Flamenco in the Peñas de Guardía; sits for the photographer Ruvén Afanador; films her first video clip with the Lebanese director Rindala Kodeih and dances in the homage to the American Flamenco followers and Concurso Internacional de Cante de Puertollano.
