Hi. I'm Chef Mayhem, a graphic designer based in the Silicon Valley, and I'm currently involved in many different things, including freelance design (you can read more about that at my business site, Zyzzix Media ), music (I've spent over a hundred hours in the studio with a Grammy-nominated producer), and volunteer work (which includes different things, including playing keyboards for a band that plays inside prisons - spreadin' a little rock-'n-roll gospel to the faithful behind bars. It's interesting.)
I served a full term on the Disneyland Creative Advisory Council in 2003-04, and my Disney web sites have won both Yahoo! Site of the Day and USA Today HotSite designations. Some of my past graphic design clients include Apple Computers, Inc., Intel Corporation, and Billy Graham Ministries... but enough with the resumé.
I live in the Silicon Valley, and try to get down to Disneyland at least four times a year for creative renewal. I'm sure many of you can relate. Being surrounded with the product of so much collective imagination is like finding an oasis in the desert of mediocrity that pop culture often becomes. I've found that Disneyland is a refreshing place to be, both professionally and personally.
I've always adored Disneyland, ever since the days when I'd run around the park with friends back in the '70s. I've also always loved spook houses, Halloween masks, bones and dime-store-type creepy stuff in October. I went through three different copies of the 1968 Disneyland Haunted Mansion record LP -- I kept breaking the records because I would trace the pictures in the album booklet. By the time I was 12, a friend and I got together and produced the first of many annual Haunted Houses to raise money for homeless aid organizations. Needless to say, Halloween is often a big event around the Mayhem household.
