I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and was introduced to jazz at a young age by my father. Although not a musician he always had a "musicians ear".I learned guitar from a fellow named Jim Hollowood who, lucky for me, was committed to teaching the basics.I went to college at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where I studied classical guitar with Irving Kaufman. During this time I also traveled to Pittsburgh to study with, jazz guitar legend (and Mr. Roger's Neighborhood alumnus), Joe Negri. After college I entered the Air Force to play in an Air Force Band. It was there that I had the opportunity to play - a lot! I played all styles in all types of bands. I even played percussion in the concert band on the base!During this time I was also able to study jazz guitar with Jim Smith who taught at the Cincinnati Conservatory. After getting out of the service I worked as a public school music teacher and a computer analyst but have always maintained an active muisical life "on the side" .
