Hello, my name is Kiko. Thank you for visiting my site. I would love to tell you a little about me. :)
I am a Pantropical Spotted Dolphin and live in the Hawaiian waters. My type of species can be found in all the worlds temperate and tropical oceans.
There are 3 types of Pantropical Spotted Dolphin subspecies. Subspecies "A" are found offshore in the Easter Pacific, subspecies "B" (like me!) can be found around the Hawaiian Islands, and the last subspecies is named "Graffmani" and can be found from Mexico to Peru.
In the 60's and 70's, the Pantropical Spotted Dolphin came under threat due to the Dolphins propensity for associating with Yellowfish Tuna. Fishermen would use purse seine nets to capture thousands of Dolphin and Tuna at once - killing all the dolphins. In a short 25 years period of time, 1/2 the world's population of Pantropical Spotted Dolphins and 75% of the Eastern Pacific population had been wiped out.
In the 80's, after years of worldwide attention to this issue, the rise of "dolphin-friendly tuna [capturing methods]" saved millions of Dolphin lives. The world popluation of Pantropical Spotted Dolphins as of now is in excess of three million.
The Pantropical Spotted Dolphin is very active and can often be seen making large leaps from the ocean. It breaches often and it's common for their leap to last a second or longer.
