About Me

Recently moved to Maryland... after a year in the desert, water is more beautiful than ever. Never thought I could appreciate a blade of grass so much...
What's my main focus? The EcoRes Forum . Why the environmental interests? Read my story . Like the song says, "I need to wake up". Having done that, I'm working to incorporate eco-principles throughout my life. (Bonus: I can sleep better at night.)
I've been known to hug a lot of trees. How about you? :-)Have you checked your carbon footprint? Why does it matter? Check this out:
A nice thought: "Our work is to show that we have been breathed upon..."

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."

My Interests

Climate change/climate justice: Research and activism. My life work: The EcoRes Forum (& on MySpace )
Anything that gets me into nature: Hiking, white water rafting. 2007 highlight (literally): Skydiving -- blue skies! For 2008: kayaking and mountain climbing. Goal: EVEREST
Compassionate, simplified, sustainable lifestyles: I'm still learning!
Travel & learning about other cultures: "I am not the same; having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world."

I'd like to meet:

People inspired and inspiring, especially those who share their souls through music, dance, art, or the pen. Active on social/environmental issues? Even better! There is no greater success than to touch someone by sharing yourself.

Pin this badge on your site.
Care to expand your musical horizons?
Check out Béla Fleck here and on YouTube (it gets crazy!):

Music:

Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. From Muddy Waters to Axl Rose, Billie to Bocelli, Groenemeyer to Caruso, Beethoven ( Moonlight Sonata ) to Vivaldi, Janis to Melissa, Irish folk and modern to family bands of bluegrass/country, you'll find it in my collection. (I think Jimi Hendrix did that song just for me...)

Movies:

The scarier the better...

Television:

International news, comedy, Euro football, and for some unexplainable reason: Spongebob

Books:

Kahlil Gibran, Umberto Eco, Ayaan Ali; anything from which I can learn or with which I can dream.
DAMN THIRSTY
First
the fish needs to say,
"Something ain't right about this
Camel ride --
And I'm
Feeling so damn
thirsty."
(Sufi poem)

Heroes:

Professionally, people like Nelson Mandela and Jody Williams and all the people working to make a difference in the global warming challenge.
Personally, people like my Uncle Dick, who can always find a reason to laugh. My forever hero: My grandma. Back in the day: Rachel McLish, Cory Everson - now that's discipline!
If you haven't already, check out "Peaceful Warrior" . Old Soc was right all along.

My Blog

Seeking the good

When I first sat down, my initial intention was to write about how sad it is that human beings seem to be programmed to automatically look for the bad in each other. But then it hit me: Here I was, do...
