Brett Harris has come a long way from his days singing into a hand-me-down tape recorder in his basement. Last year, the Durham singer-songwriter emerged from that basement with a collection of songs and began playing shows throughout the region. With Yesterday's News, his self- released first EP (2008), Brett was able to showcase his versatility as a musician as well as a songwriter. With a series of strong press reviews and a relentless touring schedule Brett earned the respect of fans and critics alike and proved that he is as hard-working as he is talented. For his follow-up effort, Brett once again teamed up with producer/engineer John Plymale. Unlike Yesterday’s News, which featured Brett playing every instrument, this new project was intended to capture the sound and feel of a band playing together in a room. To achieve that sound, Brett recorded with the talented trio that has backed him at select shows this year. This four-song collection, entitled Side Two (release date: October 7th, 2008), further demonstrates Brett’s range and versatility. From the raucous sing-along chorus of opener “Not Coming Back†to the dance pop inspired “Red Dress†to the tender yet assuring tones of the piano- driven “Crashing Downâ€, Side Two is a vibrant and eclectic mix that reveals an artist growing rapidly in ability and further defining a style and sound that is all his own.
