In it's most potent form, music goes beyond barriers, bridging gaps between people who on the surface may seem to be foreign to each other. Such is the case with Lauricia, a Maryland based singer & songwriter who has a musical and cultural bond with her fans. On her first album, Spanish Tendencies, one can witness the Spanish flair throughout that brings the culture of Spain to the rest of the world. A lavish, emotionally saturated ride with universal themes of romance, conflict, desire, discovery, and hope abound in the album as you're taken on a musical journey of Spain simultaneously.Lauricia is the force behind the music, in combination with music composer/producer Jeff Leauby. Lauricia grew up near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the only child of musically gifted parents. The product of an unstable home, Lauricia was consistently faced with such challenges as losing her mother and caring for her disabled father. “For a while it was just my father and I. We didn't have much money, but there was plenty of love and always music in the house. This is how music became the catalyst that eventually evolved me into the driven, independent artist that I am today.â€â€œAt each stage of my life I remember different types of music surrounding me. When I was a child, it was Elvis, Carly Simon and Carole King. Later on, I became enchanted with pop divas Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and jazz queens, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Most recently in my life, I have delved into world music due to my intense interests in foreign languages and cultures. Some of these artists have been Ishtar Alabina, Laura Pausini, La Oreja De Van Gogh and Zazie. I believe that various elements of many of these artists can be heard in my music, but I have the most fun in experimenting with languages. This, combined with having the gift of a musical ear, has allowed me to create my own unique style and surprise my fans with new languages and instruments all the time.â€Lauricia has always been involved with music, in one way or another. Being raised by musical parents, she was taught to sing before she could speak. She still remembers her mother brilliantly accompanying herself on the guitar while singing self-written songs. “I was only 5 years old when my mother passed away, but I believe this gave me even more motivation to follow in her footsteps. She and my father gave me every reason to get involved in everything from choirs to violin lessons. This all brought me to the point of creating Spanish Tendencies and beyond. I have done everything from teaching myself to play various instruments to writing well over 200 songs.â€Lauricia's music is infused with colorful romance coming back from a trip to some exotic, faraway land. Lauricia explains, “My music is about feelings we all experience and go through; love, happiness, loss and sadness. Even in the middle of complete sadness in a song, I try to paint a more positive picture in the listener's mind; my lyrics have been said to relax the mind body and spirit while giving something to ponder. In my songwriting, I strive to give my audience something to think about while providing a escape from possible darkness, even in the midst of a gloomy moment. You can hear this in songs like “Mi Corazonâ€, a Flamenco-sounding, fanciful tune about how your heart can long for someone while at the same time being elated with the discovery of this romance. It's also prevalent in “Sunshine Thru The Rain†where someone who has suffered from many days of loneliness and pain has been able to experience their sun-drenched romance of a lifetime. Musically, Lauricia's vocals convey the subtle balance between profound melancholy and exaltation at the miracle of being alive, and all while delivering a good dose of culture to your ears. She can also be heard playing her violin on many of these original songs, which modernizes classic forms; not a far cry from Linda Brava. Lauricia's music is full of unique surprises and has a sense of timelessness. This combination takes it beyond the fickle whims of superficial fashion and trends.
