About Me

Life is short.
&nbsp&nbsp Break the rules,
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspForgive quickly,
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspKiss slowly,
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&n bsp&nbspLove truly,
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&n bsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspLaugh uncontrollably,
And never regret anything that made you smile."
I'm a warm, friendly lady who is always looking to meet people, exchange ideas, and make new friends. I have a fabulous 6 year old son, who is priority 1. I've been divorced a while now and starting to think about dating. When I do date, it'll be when my son is at his dad's. At least until I get to know you!
Right now I've been watching the Firefly TV series and Serenity movie and am totally facinated not only by the show but the people who made it. Especially interested in Equality Now, Kids Need to Read and the Hero project. There are links to those projects and other charities I support later on this page. I love to give back to my community and have a lot of respect for those who take action.
My favorite artist to listen to right now is Jason Michael Carroll. Saw him in concert and am still amazed by his voice and his wonderful personality. I've also recently heard "100 Years" by Five for Fighting and am exploring their music some more. There's also a genre called Firefilk which is filk songs written about "Firefly" the SF series.
If you're into Hip Hop, please also stop by and give a listen to my nephew: tha forsaken. He's an amazing young man who I know will go far. His website is: www.thaforsaken.com He's also on my friends list so you can give him a listen on his profile page!
I enjoy going to Science Fiction and conventions. My brother is webmaster for Icon 32 , so I have to put a link here. ;-) Maybe I'll see you there.
I'm also into dancing, swimming, biking, reading and all are improved by spending that time with friends. My family, my friends and my faith are my priorities.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

My Interests

Dancing, biking, hiking, swimming, stained glass panel making, sci-fi, country music, swing dancing, going to the theater (amateur or professional), going to the Renn Faires, going to movies or dinner. Really anything that includes spending time with my friends. I worry far more about who I'm with that what we're doing.

I'd like to meet:

Positive, energetic people! People who value others, who like to help out in their community. People who are kind, strong and intelligent. Those who believe they can make a difference and that every difference for the better, however small, helps us all.
Also looking for Browncoats of Iowa and Greater Omaha Area Browncoats! SF Fans in general!

Music:

Listen to country, but enjoy all genres--even some Hip Hop. Love Classic Rock, Big Band, and Folk--especially Celtic Folk. Favorite artists include: Taxi Driver, Jason Michael Carroll, Richard Shindell, Trisha Yearwood, Mary Chapin Carpenter, JoDee Messina, Martina McBride, Five for Fighting, Persephone Players, Bedlam Bards.

Movies:

Am on a Nathan Fillion kick: seen "Waitress" twice in two weeks, "Serenity" (just got my 2 DVD Collector's Edition), "Water's Edge", just got Netflix and picking up on my movie watching. ;-) Just watched "Outing Riley" for the second time and it was even better! Where does Mr. Fillion get all that talent??
All time favorite movies include Dead Again, Henry V (the Kenneth Brannagh version), Casablanca, While You Were Sleeping, any Star Wars or Star Trek movies (well, except for the first one and the one Shatner directed).

Television:

If I watch at all, I like Firefly, Star Trek (any variety, although TNG is my favorite), West Wing, Law & Order (again, any variety). I mostly watch Disney Channel with my son. A certain actor of whom I'm a fan got me hooked on "Desperate Housewives," but I know what goes around, comes around. ;-> Looking forward to Castle and Dollhouse when they come out.

Books:

Sci-fi and fantasy, mystery, thriller, historical fiction. Anything readable with an interesting plot, especially anything that can surprise me. I loved "The Software; Virus on Orbis 1." Have you heard Nathan Fillion reading the first 3 chapters on IGN? I'm got hooked and had to read the whole thing. ;-) Seriously though it's a wonderful book (but I swear I heard Nathan reading it to me for the whole rest of the book). Can't wait for the sequel to come out any day now!! ;-) Am rereading my Jack McDevitt collection and acquiring more of the same. Any suggestions for what I should tackle next?

Heroes:

My Mom. My Dad. My son. Those who put others first. Those who are always looking for ways to improve life for everyone. People with the courage to choose what's right instead of what is easy. People with honor and integrity.
Here is a list of my favorite projects. I hope you'll decide to support some or all of them. Please let me know what projects you know of and I'll do what I can:

Nothing But Nets! Kids Need to Read by PJ Haarsma and Nathan Fillion
Get this widget! St Jude Children's Research Hospital Global Misions Committee at my church. I chair the committee, so if you have a project you'd like us to consider, you have an 'in.' Please leave me email with ideas and I'll check it out! Bead for Life, helping Ugandan women support their families Your clicks can save lives, prevent cancer, promote literacy, save the rainforest. The Hero Project by Martin Firell, featuring Nathan Fillion Help classify galaxies! Equality Now I'm also a facilitator for: Firefly for Firefighters! Browncoats are providing copies of the Firefly box set to local firestations! Petition to ask a network to bring back our BDH! Let Serenity Fly Again! Our best hope for Serenity to fly again is in the sales of the 2-disc DVD. It's VERY Shiny!

An answer to my question

Past the seeker as he prayed came the crippled and the beggar and the beaten. And seeing them...he cried, "Great God, how is it that a loving creator can see such things and yet do nothing about them?...
