Welcome to the HERO Command Centre! This page was started by the NathanNation crew in conjunction with public artist Martin Firrell for the development of multi-media support for his HERO project.
About HERO
HERO is an attempt to re-evaluate what we mean when we use the word hero. It is a multi-media project started by cultural activist Martin Firrell and taken up by people in more than 80 countries. Featuring Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Serenity, Waitress), HERO asks the question why are our heroes usually male, white and violent; and airs the views of men, women and children who have experienced a different kind of heroism at home, at work, at war.
You can view the complete HERO project here: www.completehero.com/
Be Part of It
Add the power of your own voice to the HERO project--the world's most important public art project. Post your reactions, ideas, and experiences at: http://supersecretthingy.blogspot.com/ . This blog will be an historical document, capturing people's feelings and dreams about heroes and the part they play in our lives. It will become an integral part of the project, as Martin cycles the ideas and returns them to the public arena. Together we can make this place a little kinder--but only by doing it together.
Support HERO
To help spread the word, the HCC created a collection of very shiny banners, wallpapers, and buttons. Post them on your MySpace, Facebook, Blog, website...wherever. Please make sure to link the banners back to the Complete HERO website: http://www.completehero.com. Click here to view the collection.

About Martin Firrell
Firrell is an artist who creates text-based pieces for public spaces, because he believes art’s place is at the centre of everyday life. His work has appeared in the form of digital projections and installed type, on cinema canopies and ticket backs, on till receipts, and in public toilets. Robbed of their usual context, Firrell’s often provocative words take on different emphases and meanings.
Martin Firrell's newest project, The Question Mark Inside , was commissioned by the Chapter of St. Paul's Cathedral London. On November 1, 2008 St. Paul's Cathedral in London will be brilliantly illuminated with color and text to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the topping off of Christopher Wren's world-famous Cathedral Building.
Highlighting the social value of art, he states that concision, utility, and public availability make up the foundation of his projects. His work has been compared to that of American artists Barbara Kruger and Jenny Holzer. - Forma Artist Profile
