I am a textile artist, exploring ways in which costume can be used as intervention. As part of my MA in the 'Visual Language of Performance', i am currently working on a performance, informed by the ongoing research i have undertaken over the last 6 months into themes of cultural appropriation, trade and exchange, and processes of creolization. Using dress as a motif, my aim is to express the complex results of colonisation and explore notions of a multiple, hybrid sense of identity....................................................

h this project, i intend to link historical trading networks of the textile industry, crucial to the colonial quest, with modern day processes of cultural assimilation and acquisition through travel......................................................

......For the performance, i will be travelling along the old cotton trading route from Liverpool to Manchester, making a costume composed of donations from the people i meet along the way. I will be sewing, eating and sleeping in the costume as i travel and the idea is to weave in and incorporate the diverse stories and exchanges with people and places that i encounter on the journey.....................................................
