Inserts

Inserts is a free improvisational group that plays experimental fusion style music. The original band was based out of Ann Arbor Michigan and began recording and performing in the early 80s.This band consisted of Richard Isgrigg (me) on guitar, guitar-synthesizer and Fender Rhodes Piano, Tom Cranor on guitar and guitar-synthesizer, Mark Murrell (Ed Special) on fretless bass and loops, and Sam Simon on drums. We recorded "Out of the Box" which was digitally mastered and pressed on JVC Super-vinyl in Japan by The Japan Victor Corporation and was imported to the US for distribution by our label Nozzle Records.The album jacket was designed by Cal Schenkel, who is best known for his work with Frank Zappa. The album received good airplay on public radio stations and positive reviews in the industry press.Although the original Inserts was primarily a recording band we also did live radio performances and concerts. We headlined a number of performances and opened for Allan Holdsworth and other internationally known jazz fusion artists.All the performances on "Out of the Box" were spontaneous improvisational pieces recorded live with no overdubs.In the 90’s I reformed the group in various configurations and recorded a CD with Rip Shredder titled "Illusion of Rule". "Illusion of Rule" and a new expanded special edition of "Out of the Box" will be available on CD shortly. There are plans to release several other Inserts CDs over the coming year.I’m currently looking for musicians for an updated version of the group and welcome inquiries.
