About Me

In the 80's I played guitar, guitar synthesizer and keyboards in the free improvisational fusion group "Inserts". "Inserts" was primarily a studio band but we did a number of concerts and live radio broadcasts. In 1982 we released the LP album, "Out of the Box". It was mastered at JVC Hollywood, pressed in Japan by the Japan Victor Corporation on JVC Supervinyl. It was imported to the United States for distribution by our label Nozzle Records. The album graphics were done the artist Cal Schenkel, who is primarily known for his work with Frank Zappa. The album got good air play on jazz and public radio stations and favorable reviews in the industry press. You can hear some of the album here http://www.myspace.com/insertsmusicIn the 90's I made a CD "Illusion of Rule" with Michigan based improvisational keyboard artist, Rip Scredder (Rick Schrader). The album consisted of a series of spontaneous free improvisational pieces on which I played keys, guitar and guitar synthesizer. Like the earlier Inserts album all of the pieces were recorded without charts or prior discussion about what was to be played and were performed live in one take with no overdubs. You can hear some of these tunes here http://www.myspace.com/inserts2The selections on this site feature some of my personal music, most of which is improvisational in nature. I will be adding new tunes on a regular basis so check back to see what's new. Thanks for stopping by.Richard Isgrigg
