“The music of Lisa Lawrence easily conjures the probably accurate image of one woman and a guitar driving up and down the highways of New England to one bar gig after another. This is the level of intimacy you feel in the performance of Lawrence's songs, that and the curious mixture of country, blues, alternative and pop rock,” says Lucid Forge Music. Lisa’s musical journey began in 2001 with a guitar and backpack and a trip to NYC to play showcase after showcase to see what it was like to be a singer songwriter. Since then there has been no stopping her. Lisa's road warrior mentality has led her to gigs from Maine to Tennessee. Lisa loves performing and lets nothing come between her and the next gig.
She is a classically trained singer and graduated with a degree in vocal performance and theory and composition. However, she is more likly to bust out a Zeppelin cover in the middle of a set than a Mozart aria. Lisa’s performance is a solo acoustic set of mostly original songs. Lisa’s musical style is very diverse, “Like any good folk singer, her songs tell stories, but I am not going to overlook Lawrence’s musical abilities. She has a sweet sensitive voice that helps drive home the emotional content of her music. Lisa Lawrence sings from the soul.” Says Thomas Pizzola of the Hartford Advocate. Career highlights include opening for a wide variety of musicians such as folk duo Chris and Meredith Thompson, New Bedford Troubadour Michael Troy and being a finalist in the Dessert Club song competition.
In 2007, Lisa released the album “Yours to Break” on Sling Slang records. "Yours to Break" is the work of an accomplished songwriter. Lawrence sings moving, impressionistic narratives over gritty roots-rock accompaniment in a clear expressive voice” says the Hartford Courant. Produced by Scott Genereau at Aliehn Productions, it is a little bit of country, folk, and pop. Lisa’s music is inspired by real life and her life is always inspired by music. She is always prepared for inspiration to strike. She may even steal the words right out of your mouth and use them in her next song but don’t watch what you say around her. Don’t hold back.
