Rony was born in Jerusalem. In his early years, he became a member of the Israeli Rock group “Duvdevan”. In 1980 Rony moved to France for 5 years to complete his musical studies,while working as a musician. During this period, he played with a number of top musicians including Martial Solal, Jean-Pierre Debarbat Jean-Loup Longnon and, in 1984, he played in the Big Band of Monte Carlo.In 1986, Rony was one of the first teachers to join the staff of what was to become the much acclaimed Rimon Academy of Music and he has been forming many professional musicians ever since.Rony regularly plays in theatrical productions, chiefly at Habima, the National Theater of Israel, and at the Cameri Theater in Tel Aviv. A partial list of the productions he has performed in includes Evita, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Les Miserables, Cabaret, Guys and Dolls, Piaf, , A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, He has also played with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in their Homage to Leonard Bernstein concert. In 1999, Rony wrote music for Hallil Gibran’s masterpiece “The Prophet”.Rony is one of the outstanding Jazz musicians in Israel and is often invited to play with top international performers, such as David Liebman, Sam Rivers, Benny Golson, James Moody, Eddy Daniels, Lou Solof and Frank Gambale among many others. He has also taken part in various Jazz shows at the annual Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat, Israel.Today, Rony plays in his Trio with Eli Magen and Avi Adrian.Rony wrote the methods: “Rhythm for all” I and II, “Fifty ways to love your drumming”, “Rony Holan teaches drums” and “Polyrhythms for the drumset”.
