Assaf Kehati is a jazz musician, improviser, composer and educator.
He has preformed in a variety of settings and venues with a variety of different musicians, such as the Rimon Ensemble at the “Jazz and Blues Festival†in Israel, with guitar player Frank Gambale in Tel Aviv, and with the Holon Big Band in “Israel National Festival.†He has led his own quartet at festivals and in jazz clubs such as the Shablul Jazz Club in Tel Aviv, “The Yellow Submarine†in Jerusalem and the “Machtesh Ramon Jazz Festival†in Israel.Assaf is a well educated musician, studied with the best musicians in Israel like Shai Chen and yosi levy and attended Rimon jazz school in Israel, but also strongly believes in self exploration. He is an autodidact, spending most of his time revealing new layers and sounds in his music. The music he composes is influenced by artists such as Bill Evans, Charles Lloyd, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Potter and Joey Calderazzo. The music he writes for his quartet includes both written-out parts and improvised sections, leaving much room for his group to interpret the written music, to reach different places each time, and to create a dialogue within the group.Assaf is currently working on new pieces for his CD and studying at the New England Conservatory in pursuit of a Masters degree in jazz performance with teachers Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Moses, George Garzone, Robin Eubanks and Billy Hart.
Most recently, Assaf was chosen to represent the New England Conservatory at a performance in Jordan Hall with artist in residence, clarinetist Don Byron. The recordings on this page feature:Tammy Scheffer-Voice
