About Me

Hans Fredrik Jacobsen was born and grew up in Risør, a small, beautiful city on the southcoast of Norway, being one of the closest to the open sea in the whole country. Today he lives in Tolga, a small town in the mountains of Nordøsterdalen, a district as far from the sea as possible. Hans Fredrik knows a lot about contrasts, but the sky is equally wide in both places! Hans Fredrik has been working professionally with music the last 25 years as an artist, arranger and composer, and has been a sought after studiomusician by many of the greatest artists in Norway. As a child he used to sing together with his elder sister Åse, sad songs about sailors and lovers disseaparing at sea, songs that made the nannys cry and the uncles look in another direction at family parties. That was the first time he experienced the power of music! Later he learned how to play the saxophone, the guitar and the flute, and even later the two row accordeon and several other instruments like oud, kantele, bagpipe and more. His collection of flutes is steadily increasing! Hans Fredrik is known for his mastery of many instruments and for his colloboration over many years with his wife Tone Hulbækmo, in the medieval group Kalenda Maya, as in several other connections. This has produced a string of CD's, 3 of them winning Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammy). Hulbækmo/Jacobsen have also created a lot of music for the stage, and for other people, music for films, television, musicals, ballets and more. They have worked a lot with childrens music, and fronted their own programmes in radio and TV. They have worked together with some of the gratest poets of Norway, like Halldis Moren Vesaas and Ove Røsbak, giving melodies to many of their poems. Hans Fredrik has also, as mentioned, worked a lot with other musicians and artists, both in the studio and in concerts, like national poet/singer Erik Bye(he made melodies to several of his poems, also the one that became the last song Erik Bye wrote before he died,Drøm.You can see and hear it in the movie "Giganten"), Secret Garden (yes, he was playing the flute when SG won the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin 1995, and has since then played on all their CD's and toured with them in China, Australia, Turkey, Ireland and Norway) Sissel Kyrkjebø, Annbjørg Lien, Knut Reiersrud , Sondre Bratland and many more.
