Deborah Tanguy is a leading young jazz and improvising music artist in contemporary France. She is an accomplished and award-winning performer of a variety of musical styles, including mainstream and contemporary jazz, funk, big band and popular music. Ms Tanguy is frequently engaged as a performer, bandleader and recording artist in her home country.
Ms Tanguy’s other great passion is teaching and to this end she continues teaching vocals in a variety of contexts, from schools to conservatories, university and individual tutoring. Her focus is vocal ensemble and individual teaching. Ms Tanguy’s major awards include: Winner of the Young French Jazz Talent (2002), Crest Jazz Festival Award (2001) and one of the 5 best international vocal discoveries of the Jazz a Juan (2003).
Since 1992, she has played extensively in jazz venues in France and in Europe both as a leader and as a part of different groups. She has collaborated, played and toured with numerous renowned names in the French music industry, including composer-leader Glenn Ferris, big band leader-pianist Antoine Herve, pianist-composer Carine Bonnefoy, Steve Lacy and others. She was also a part of the vocal group the Jazz Messengers until 2005. More recently she worked with pop producer Shazz with who she recorded the album Beautiful for Universal Records and Gerard Lesne, a renowned counter-tenor singer.
In 1998 she created her own jazz ensemble, the Deborah Tanguy Quintet, with one recorded issue, Out of the Blues, under its name. The band played in festivals like Jazz sous les Pommiers, Jazz à toute Heure, Uriage en voix, Crest Jazz Vocal, Festival Jazz de Maizet, Jazz en Artois, Jazz sous les Feuilles, Jazz à Eaubonne, Jazz à Montmartre and others.
Since 2004, she works with Carine Bonnefoy, Gilles Naturel and Arnaud Lechantre on her new project and shares her time between France and South Africa. There, she has become a regular on Cape Town’s music scene, often performing and collaborating at top city venues with many of SA’s most renowned music performers, including Mike Campbell, Darryl Andrews, Mike Rossi, Shannon Mowday and her group Galumphing, Andre Petersen, Clement Benny, Wayne Bosch and Mike Perry.
Since 2005 she is invited to perform and teach at the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz festival in Grahamstown.
In 2006, she decides to create the SAFRA JAZZ BAND: 7 female musicians form France and South Africa. Their first performances take place in Paris in September at the South African Embassy and the New. She also works with the guitar player and arranger Darryl Andrews for concerts around the music of Michel Legrand.
In 2007, she recorded a new album with Carine Bonnefoy, Airelle Besson, Shannon Mowday, Julie Saury and Carlo Mombelli. real editor best profile tools real editor best profile tools
