The Phil Loder Trio

About Me

Since its inception in 2000, the Phil Loder Trio has opened for Nancy Wilson, The Guy Lombardo Orchestra, Jeremy Davenport, and others. They have played hundreds of club dates, concerts, weddings, private parties, and corporate functions. The trio played together for the first time in early 2000 at a recording session of an original big band composition Phil had arranged and was producing for Mallincrodt Chemical Company. As fate would have it, Phil's usual calls for a bassist and drummer were not available. Phil had recently played with bassist Bob Lowe on an engagement in Omaha and decided Bob would be perfect for the gig. Bob recommended former Glenn Miller Orchestra drummer, Joe Weber. By now you've already guessed, the session went great and threats were made about playing some gigs together. Within a few weeks, the band sat down to start recording Standards Vol. I. This would be only the second time the guys had played together. However, just as they were hitting the record button, the phone rang. It was a local club manager wanting to know if Phil could put together a trio to fill in for a group that had just canceled their evening performance. So, off the new combo went to play its first gig. Standards Vol. I happened the next week over three nights. Every song on the CD happened in a first or second take and there were no overdubs! The trio has been a fixture on the St. Louis music scene for seven years now. In 2005, Dick McCreary replaced Joe Weber on drums. Phil first met Dick while playing a show with Broadway/West End great Michael Ball and thought Dick would be a natural replacement for Joe. Turned out Bob didn't need a lot of convincing. All three admit the group sounds the best it has ever sounded today! Each member of the group continues their respective side gigs. On occasion, Bob will tour and record with well-known vocalist, Steve March Torme. Dick has recorded and performed with sax legend Boots Randolph. Phil continues writing jingles and scores for film and advertising, as well as arranging and producing CD projects. Often all three will play on Phil's side projects. The trio is now at work on their new CD featuring songs from The Great American Songbook. A fall 2007 release is planned.
