About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
Rootzie is the brainchild of singer/songwriter/guitarist/bassist/ percussionist/ Gregory Blaine. Gregory has been playing and singing for some 40 years in bands up and down the eastern seaboard. Rootzie came about slowly adding one piece at a time finally jelling into a rock'n funky good sound. The musical selections come from the vast works of music Gregory was exposed to in his life: Gospel, Country, Reggae, Blues, Funk, Jazz and even as of late, Bluegrass.
Jimmy Buchanan (triangles best kept secret) of Exxon Valdez Trio plays a phenomenal lead guitar. His powerfully tasteful " lead licks" create an energy that consumes a stage . We're all very honored to share performances with this fine musician.

Bruce Wassel (MARLA VICKERS BAND) combines patience, timing, and punch to create an atmosphere of drama hitting all the highs and lows while letting the musical spaces speak. This is a rare quality among drummers.
We're proud to have Lance Ashely play'n keys for us. His creative magic has brought about a very definitive flow to our sound. I personally love how he layers in very colorful chords but he's not shy when it comes time to show his wares. Go see Lance at MUSIC LOFT OF CARRBORO, NC for your musical needs.
Vocalist Dolie Chandler started singing very young under the direction of her mother Helen, grandmother Eva Mae, and older sister Carol . She and her sisters made quite a name for themselves in the Knoxville, Tennessee area. Dolie's voice resonates like the rich velvety sound of a slide trombone.
Percussionist/Harp Player, Scotty Young, plays a plethora of instruments including an unusual washboard tie. His versatility is very complimentary to our "multi genre" sound. Scotty's strong (massage therapist) hands sedate and arouse the music in us.
