Jeff Simonton Jeff is an experienced songwriter and guitarist, and brings a lot to Zegg. A player for almost twenty years, he loves both the electric and acoustic. When it comes to Zegg, though, he has found a solid niche with his PRS; it seems he just cant seem to resist stomping down on pedals and cranking the volume up to 11. He has lived in Raleigh, NC since 2003 and when hes not playing with Zegg, he maintains the website, teaches the Chinese art of Chi Gong, and foils the plans of armed robbers and car thieves with mind control.
Shane Bullis Shane is an all around music making machine....whether he is playing guitar, bass, drums, harmonica, turntables, programming electronic music, singing, rapping, or writing the catchiest tunes you ever heard. He plays bass (and vocals) for zegg and although he is capable of all of the jaco pastorius and victor wooten wankery you can handle, he is more interested in serving the song and grooving....He calls this "hand EAR coordination". Shane has far more gigs under his belt than the average player, having gigged out at least 3 nights a week for the last 13 years! His songwriting is as impressive as his other talents....as for his lyrics, they can stand alone as poetry. His virtuosity and versatility have made him a sought after player that everyone seems to want in their project. He has toured in over 15 states in previous projects including Alaska! So whether he is playing, singing, or schooling some so called MC you will love the style that he brings.
Chris Johnson - Little is known about this man, other than the fact he always seems to be the first one to know when it has begun to rain. He has been described by some as a mad scientist behind the keyboard, and that description's apt. Mixing sprawling melodies with dissonance, his sound strains against the leash and pulls you somewhere you didnt expect. His playing can fill up empty spaces like concrete, or raise the hairs in your ears with tiny toodling tickling tactics (what?). How do you pick Chris out of a crowd? Why, hell be the one with a cockatoo on his shoulder, of course.
Mike Gloss Although not one to dub himself an "acoustic guitar player," since that seems to conjure images of Joni Mitchell singing in a coffee shop in some people's minds, he has yet to bring his electric up on stage with him...maybe one day. Mike is one of the bands principal song writers and loves hearing what the other guys come up with when he brings a new song to the table. His songs are often chord-laden (bringing groans from the rest of the band as they're learning them), usually quirky, and when he's asked, he'll probably tell you his writing style is just bad jazz.
John Metcalf Known throughout the western hemisphere as Bongo John (hes known throughout the East as Rhythm de Infidel), he is the backbone and backbeat to Zegg. A highly skilled drummer and percussionist, he conjures up rhythms and syncopated synergy like a sorcerer weaving a spell. In fact, youll often hear him yelling strange incantations during a performance. He has played music for the majority of his life and has enveloped many different styles into his playing. A recent accomplishment for John was getting a write-up in the On the Move column of the March 2005 issue of Modern Drummer.
