The Marla Vickers Band, with roots in Hillsborough, NC, delivers a unique alt-country musical experience and is known for their power, spunk, and sizzling synergy. Delivering exciting interpretations of modern and classic country tunes, sprinkled with notable rock standards, and some originals, this band’s energy is infectious.
The heart and soul of the band lies within the vocal strength, versatility, and charismatic stage presence of Marla Vickers. Marla has been involved with various musical projects over the past twelve years, including a recent two year stint fronting the acoustic trio, “Magnolia Sound†in Washington, D.C. Her passion for country music began in her hometown of Athens, GA, and blossomed while living in Nashville, TN. Marla also plays rhythm guitar and keys.
Regarded as one of the area’s most versatile fiddle players, Susie Hicks has played with old-time, bluegrass, folk, blues, rock, and reggae bands. Susie pushes the envelope with her distinctive fiddle sound and musical stylings, and her vocals create memorable and tight harmonies. She hails from Raleigh and grew up playing classical music; fiddle playing became her passion while living in Chapel Hill, NC, and Berkeley, CA.
Bassist, Justin Meyers, drives each song forward with his superb musicianship and considerable strength. Justin started playing bass nearly fifteen years ago and toured with the Atlanta-based band jam band “Tumbleweed Junction†for several years up and down the east coast. After taking a break from the spotlight the past couple of years and moving to Durham, NC, he got involved with the Triangle’s music scene and has been going strong ever since.
Bruce Wassel, the man behind the beat, has been playing drums and percussion for more than forty years. Returning to the kit several years ago as a serious musician, he has taken the area by a storm. Bruce’s long and varied musical career has included playing the drums and percussion in several blues and rock bands, as well as a GENISIS tribute band. He brings thunderous rhythm and lightning precision to the band’s energetic sound. Formerly from the Philadelphia area, he now resides in Hillsborough, NC.
