About Me

Welcome to the home of the devil and his architecture of depth and desire.
"The devils of our past will become the foundations of our future." -the devil
Established in 2005, the devil has created a faithful following in the world of ambient electronic music and soundscapes. What began as an experiment with expression quickly turned into a desire to create beauty from the tension, hatred and anger in the world. Scraped up from the very gutters of the human condition, the devil takes these emotions and molds them into some of the most visual and hauntingly beautiful compositions in recent years. When asked to compare his music with that of his influences the devil said, "While some of my favorite bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Tori Amos, or even Ministry have probably had some measurable influence on my musical style, it is not a directly descended product of these artists. This is an experiment with expression, this is not an attempt to sound like anything else."
Born Devlin John Andersen, the devil hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Growing up he has no defining moment in his childhood that would point towards a career in music. While so many other artists might claim the pots and pans in their mother's kitchen to be the foundations for their musical ability, the devil can only draw upon a very successful career in his elementary and high school music programs. Beginning with the trumpet at age 12, and moving on to the French horn in high school, along with being the drummer in a high school pep band called 'Los Banditos,' the devil can only credit this schooling as the foundations of his knowledge of and ability to compose music. This basis, coupled with the defeat of becoming a frequent and habitual drug user, are the two major components that have created the music of the devil. It is truly the devils of the past that have become the foundations of his future.
Drawing upon the broken remnants of his ruined life, the devil recovered from addiction with the help of his musical reflections. Taking the powerful emotions of his own self-loathing, the come-on and come-down of a drug, the lost relations of the past, and all the other tragedy associated with becoming hungry for a high, the devil began to focus these feelings outwardly into the compositions which appear on his debut CD 'attempting emotion.' Twelve songs reminiscent of the dirtiest places in the human psyche, 'attempting emotion' creates a beautiful sonic adventure for the listener bringing them from the hard-driving 'Radio U.G.L.Y.' through the slow progress of 'The Crawl' and ending finally with the death of alter-ego in 'The Slow Surrender.'
Since it's release in October, 2006, 'attempting emotion' has garnered the attention of some notable companies in the music industry. The first single from the album was played on edition 101 of the Fame Games Radio Contest which is run by Mere Music International, a division of the BBC. Titled 'Always the Dulcet Wanderer,' the song received a rating of 12.3 (out of 15 possible points) to land it at 14 on the top 20 best rated songs on the show at that time. In their own words, "Nice vibes, sometimes even "Eastern" flavors - excellent musicianship[...]" In addition to this, the devil is also backed by Chilen Music, a music supervision company based in New York City which places music in film, television, and other visual media.
In early 2007 the devil began working with film producer Vincent Jennings regarding his feature-length film 'The Abbey of Thelema,' based on the life of Aleister Crowley circa 1918-1923. The film, entered into the Sundance Film Festival 2008, will feature seven songs from 'attempting emotion' including 'Always the Dulcet Wanderer,' 'Soundtrack to a Sacrifice,' and 'A Tempting Emotion' among others.
With 2008 now upon us, the devil continues working on theatrical score music, a new offering on CD, and some other artist collaborations to be announced soon...
Without further ado, the devil welcomes you.
