Not coming from a musical household, I quite randomly started playing clarinet when i was 8 and really liked it. Abandoning my potentially amazing career as a classical clarinet player some years later, i started playing guitar and drums, finally switching to electric bass at age 15. I then started my studies at the Brabants Conservatorium with Eric van der Westen as my double bass teacher, i also had lessons with Michel Hatzi on e-bass. After 3 years of study at another not to be mentioned music institution i decided to quit the bass. So then when i was around 20 yrs old i picked up the trumpet. Though there was definitely no love at first sight i realized that if i ever wanted to be some sort of musician i should probably stick to an instrument, and so i'm still a trumpetplayer today.
I play in a band called 'The Black Napkins', check it out on our myspace page! vette shit
I also take part in a new project by Akamoon, with 'Les Ballets C de la B' (choreography by Alain Platel). It's called 'Pitié', and is based on Bach's Matthäus Passion. Beautiful music (and dance!) with great musicians like Magic Malik, Tcha Limberger, Serge Kakudji, Claron McFadden and more.. Trumpet is Airelle Besson or me. The tour starts in september and will go a lot of places.
Next season there's also a tour with Anton Goudsmits band 'The Ploctones'. It will feature Harmen Fraanje and me, and we'll play compositions of all of us..coming to a theatre near you. if you live in Holland that is.
Then i play sometimes with a belgian band called Gowk. That rocks socks, with Teun Verburggen, Christian Mendoza, Yannick Peeters, Jasper Stadhouders and Joachim Badenhorst. There's some stuff recorded which i think is cool, and hopefully i can put some music from that sometime.
