BART TARENSKEENStarted taking classical pianolessons when he was 11 years old. Four years later he switched to classical guitar.
1978 he went to the conservatory to study to become a high school music teacher, and failed at that.
1979 he started playing electric bass guitar in rock and funk bands.
1983 he started playing double bass and one year later he was admitted into the School for Performing Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands, where he studied with Henk Haverhoek. He graduated in 1989.
In 1987 he attended a masterclass given by Miroslav Vitous.Since the beginning of his studies has played with numerous bands and musicians like Rob van Bavel, John Engels, Ferdinand Povel, Hein van de Geyn, Benjamin Herman, Jarmo Hoogendijk, Jasper Blom, Erik Vloeimans, Olaf Tarenskeen, Rob van Kreefeld, Ronald Douglas, Jesse van Ruller, Maarten van der Grinten, Martijn van Itterson, Eef Albers, Sjoerd Dijkhuizen, Peter Beets, Tineke Postma, Juraj Stanik, Rob Madna, Carolyn Breuer, Martijn Vink, Joost van Schaik, Michiel Braam, Jasper van 't Hof, Rolf Delfos, Bert van de Brink, Abraham Burton, John Ruocco, Benny Bailey, Lew Tabackin, Ernie Watts, Philip Catherine, Jean "Toots" Thielemans, Cedar Walton, Teddy Edwards, Antonio Hart, Dave Kikoski, Julian Priester, Gary Bartz, Bud Shank, Dick Oatts, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Peter Weniger, Bob Malach, Jiggs Wigham, John Taylor, Sonny Fortune, David Berkman, Owen Hart, Jr., The Four Freshmen, Deborah Brown and many others.
Currently he is a member of the Not too Big Band, Heleen Schuttevaer Trio, plays with singer Myrte Buys, and leads his own quartet and sextet.
He's played in Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Spain, Italy, in 1996 and 1997 at the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival in Jamaica, and at the 2006 IAJE Conference in New York with the Millennium Jazz Orchestra and Fay Claassen.
He writes music for most of the bands he plays in. His 25 minute suite Three Movements for big band was recorded by the Guus Tangelder Big Band for their cd Novemberlight. For Myrte Buys he arranged 5 songs on her debut cd Pretty Eyes.DISCOGRAPHY:
