About Me

Born in 1982, singer and jazz pianist Ruben Hein grew up in a very musically gifted family, near the city of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. At the age of four he discovered the piano. By the time he was eight years old, he had his first classical lessons at the local music school. Already in this period of his life, Ruben was fascinated by musicians like Ray Charles, Randy Newman, Miles Davis, the Beach boys and the Beatles. Soon after his first classical lessons, Ruben started taking jazz lessons. In 2001 Ruben started to study jazz piano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Right now he’s doing the Masters-program at the same institute. He studies with Kris Goessens, Karel Boehlee, Hans Vroomans, Rob van Bavel, John Taylor and Kenny Werner. He also participated in many masterclaases and got the chance to work with John Clayton and Justin DiCioccio. As a pianist, Ruben is a member of the Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra, which can be heard on the North Sea Jazz Festival this summer. Another project where he’s involved in is Taminiau&Band, who will record their new album this June.Ever since he was young, Ruben had a fascination with singing. This fascination took a professionalstep when he was working on a cruiseboat as a pianist and singer in the beginning of 2006. By now his singing carreer is developing rapidly. He recorded several demo’s and worked with Wicked Jazz Sounds and Pro’49. In February of this year Ruben won the 2nd prize in the Dutch Jazz Vocal Competition. He and his trio play a mixture of know and lesser-known pop and jazz tunes. Ruben can be heard in several theaters throughout Holland from novembrer 2007 on, together with Dutch Jazz Competition-winner Franz von Chossy, Esra Dalfidan and Roderick Povel. This in cooperation with the Jazz Impuls foundation
