The Meaning of Louie

documentary-in-progress of misunderstood rock song

About Me

The Meaning of LOUIE is a documentary many years in the making. It is a quest to uncover the real story of the world..s most misunderstood rock and roll song. It..s the story about Richard Berry, the Kingsmen, Jack Ely, Rockin.. Robin Roberts, the Fabulous Wailers, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Mark Lindsay, Little Bill Engelhart, Dave Lewis, Ron Holden & the Playboys, the Frantics, the Sonics, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, Toots & the Maytals, Motorhead, Black Flag, Frank Zappa & the Mothers of Invention, Michael Doucet & BeauSoleil, the Sandpipers, and every other band that embraced this song, and took this simple little melody to new plateaus.

This is a story of both famous and obscure musicians that have personal histories with this iconic song. This is the story of the song that was investigated by the F.B.I. for supposedly obscene lyrics. This is the story of the song that inspired movements in the state of Washington and Oregon to declare it as an official rock song. The influence of this one little song is enormous.

This documentary has had a very interesting story in its own right. This MySpace page is a chance for me to connect to you, and you to me. While I may put up a few postings on this page, my primary webpage is at LouieLouie.net . I appreciate your comments, and hope you will check out my regular LouieLouie blog for more details on exactly what I am up to.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Any old friends I lost track of.

Anyone with an appreciation for good music you can groove to

Anyone with a great story connected to LOUIE LOUIE

Anyone that has an archive of music, photos, flyers, posters, and other memorabilia connected to Richard Berry, Rockin Robin Roberts, the Wailers (not to be confused with Bob Marley), The Kingsmen, Paul Revere & Raiders, the Sonics, the Frantics, Dave Lewis, Ron Holden & the Playboys, the Flairs, the Robins, Jesse Belvin, Pacific Northwest music venues 1950s-1960s, Los Angeles Central Avenue 1940s-1960s, Washington State LOUIE LOUIE movement, and anything else I tie into the LOUIE LOUIE universe.

Anyone that has an interest in investing into completion funding for one of the most unique music documentaries ever produced.

Anyone that can identify the unknown versions of LOUIE LOUIE that were played at the KFJC "Maximum LOUIE LOUIE" marathon of 1983.

People I Don't Want to Meet

I have absolutely NO INTEREST in linking up with scammers, spammers and other likewise-minded people that are using MySpace to sell their lame "make-money-now" schemes. Please go pester someone else...

Also... Please don't go nuts sending bulletins! It's no fun to get the exact same bulletin three times in one day, or getting some lame message about being "bored." If you are bored, you really don't need to tell me that...

People that are easily bored.... tend to be boring.... Imagination and vivid dreams are where it's at! Even inspired hallucinations are infinitely more interesting than being bored...

I tend to remove folks that send out boring bulletins, so use discretion in bombarding me with your stuff, will ya?

Music:

ONLY the good stuff.....

Movies:

Here's a little sample of footage that was shot specifically for THE MEANING OF LOUIE.

First, let me introduce you to Jack Ely, original vocalist of the Kingsmen, singing LOUIE LOUIE to one of his horses in 2003.

Jack Ely sings LOUIE LOUIE to his Horse

Next, here's a clip of Richard Berry, the man who wrote LOUIE LOUIE, performing live in 1988. This is a rather unique performance, as Richard is typically considered a rhythm and blues musician, often lumped into the DooWop category, but he's peforming with an instrumental surf band! The tempo of this performance is completely different from his original 1957 recording with the Pharaohs!

There's more clips at my YouTube page !

Television:

Producing TV is certainly a lot more fun than watching TV...

Heroes:

Richard Berry, Rockin' Robin Roberts, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Link Wray, Wanda Jackson, Esquerita, Cub Koda, Davie Allan, Arthur Alexander, Larry Wiliams, and all of the other forgotten legends of rock and roll.
