I make friend requests of people with whom I believe I have something in common artistically or otherwise. Please extend me the same courtesy. Asking to be my "friend" just to promote your new record that has nothing to do with anything I am about, counts as spam and is just plain rude. And what is up with these profiles with hundreds of comments from all of your friends ("Dude, thanks for the add") filled with video clips and huge flyers for their next gig or new record that take forever to load and jam up our DSL modem? It's called the Edit button - try it!
